INTERIOR SPACE PLANNING MAPUA UNIVERSITY SCHOOL OF ARIDBE
Space planning is an in-depth analysis of how physical space is used in structures. It considers the purpose of spaces and who will use them. Space planning is a process that takes several steps, and it's an important component for the work of interior designers and architects .
ADJACENCY MATRIX Process 1. Identify the zones in a particular space 2. Analyze the relationship of these zones to one another A design structure matrix lists all constituent subsystems/activities and the corresponding information exchange, interactions, and dependency patterns.
ADJACENCY MATRIX Simple to Complex
INTERRELATIONSHIP & CIRCULATORY DIAGRAM Based on the matrix study of the various combinations of spaces; an interrelationship diagram is made. The circulatory diagram should show the various flow of activities of the different users of this facility or building
INTERRELATIONSHIP & CIRCULATORY DIAGRAM Re-arranging the diagram should improve the flow and lessen traffic in the interior space. Do not settle with your first diagram especially if it create heavy convergence of the flow of activites .
INTERRELATIONSHIP & CIRCULATORY DIAGRAM If the flow of various activities by different users do not create traffic then the diagram can now be translated into plans. But, the plan made after this phase is still not final. May other consideration can still spring up during the study of the plans.
SPACE PLANNING Before plans are finalized, it can still go through several revisions. Your preliminary study should be flexible so that you can re-arrange the spaces to improve planning.
SPACE PLANNING BUT IS THIS ALREADY YOUR DESIGN? Do not get too excited in finalizing the floor plan. Other adjustments can still move the spaces of revise the plan for better, more convenient layout.
1. Eliminate wasted steps. 2. Design wide walkways. 3. Direct traffic through the kitchen. 4. Stay clear of corners. 5. Find the right height for the microwave. 6. Determine the island's function. 7. Plan landing space near appliances. 8. Consider the countertops. 9. Double up kitchen appliances. 10. Arrange the range area. 11. Install a pot-filler. 12. Be smart when storing knives. 13. Make recycling easy. 14. Organize items within reach. 15. Consider electrical outlets. https://www.bhg.com/kitchen/remodeling/planning/tips/ DETAILED CONSIDERATIONS IN DESIGNING A KITCHEN
