What are Marginal Soils Marginal materials are those that do not meet the requirement of the specification for a premium or standard material AND ARE naturally occurring gravels and weathered rocks. These materials possess low strength and high compressibility and thus form a great challenge to Geotechnical Engineers worldwide. But, Marginal granular soils can perform nearly as well as a conventional material with the proper method and knowledge of their properties. Bitumen Emulsion is a mixture of Water and Bitumen. Being an oil substance, bitumen cannot be combined with water. So, before bitumen, water is mixed with a surface active agent. In this case, kerosene is utilised as the surface active agent. A small droplet of one liquid dispersed throughout another liquid is referred to as an emulsion. . Bitumen Composition Bitumen is a naturally occurring substance derived from crude oil. It is a mixture of 300-2000 chemical components Contains 95% Carbon and Hydrogen, 5% Sulphur, 2% Nitrogen and Oxygen. Nadeem Mir (GT001) NIT SRINAGAR SOIL STABILIZATION Sunday, May 26, 2024 May 19 2023 7 / 11

Particle size distribution refers to the relative proportions of different-sized particles within a sample of material. SOIL STABILIZATION Particle Size Analysis Nadeem Mir (GT001) NIT SRINAGAR 9 / 17 Sunday, May 26, 2024 May 19 2023 9 / 11

Prior to conducting the relevant tests for the bitumen emulsion mixed soil sample of three different proportions, the characteristic study on the acquired soil sample was completed. The various proportions are prepared with 10%, 20% and 25 % of bitumen emulsion mixed to the soil sample. Below are comparisons and summaries of the test findings. The impact of Bitumen Emulsion on Soil performance was thoroughly examined in this study. The properties of the soil sample were determined through tests, and comparable experiments were carried out on soil samples that have been blended with bitumen emulsion in three different amounts (10%, 20%, and 25%). The results of the tests show that the strength of the soil increases as bitumen emulsion is increased in the soil sample until a 10% percentage ratio after which a decrease in strength is observed.
