Objectives What is audience analysis? What are types of audience analysis? Why do we do audience analysis? How to conduct audience analysis?
Audience analysis defined It is a process that involves identifying the audience and adapting to Their interests . Level of their understanding. Attitudes. And the audience the beliefs. Example a cooking company in Zimbabwe might think of the world as its target audience, but it can develop several specific audiences, such as those who like chips and chicken (chicken inn), those who like pizza (pizza inn), cream inn etc.
Types of audience analysis The situational analysis The demographic analysis The psychological analysis The multicultural analysis The topic of interest and prior knowledge
1. The situational analysis This is the type of audience analysis which considers the situation for which your audience are gathered. It is primarily concerned with why audience are assembled in the first place, i.e. are they willingly gathered to hear you speak. Examples 1. How many people came to hear my speech and why are they here. 2. What events concerns, and the needs motivated them to come. 3. What is their interest level, and what else might be competing for their attention. :
2. The demographic analysis This type of analysis defines and examines an audience by its demographics, including age, geographic location, gender identification, educational level, income level, and other statistical data. (Cortez, 2015) Example : the demographic factors of demographic audience analysis include Age Gender Religion Ethnic background Class Sexual orientation occupation And education.
3. The psychological analysis The aim of this type of audience analysis is to know what the audience would be expecting before and during the presentation. This covers discovering both the knowledge and beliefs of the audience. Thoughtful psychological audience analysis allows the speaker to adapt all presentations to the needs of their specific audience and situation. (Siddique, 2021)
4. The multicultural analysis It odd that any real world audience that you will encounter will have an underlying multicultural dimension. As a speaker, you need to recognize that the perspective you have on any given topic may not necessarily be shared by all of the memories of your audience.
5. The topic of interest and prior knowledge Involves identifying the audience and adapting a speech to their interests, level of understanding, attitudes and beliefs. (Roarke, 2007) It is important because it improves a speaker`s effectiveness will be improved if the presentation is created and delivered in an appropriate manner.
Audience analysis skills Gathering audience information by By asking those who came before you. Indirect observations. Surveys. Conducting interviews.
Importances of audience analysis Help the presenter to produce an effective speech. It help the presenter to deliver a presentation in a very appropriate manner. It improves speaker ethos. Help the speaker to establish the common ground.
