The content of this professional learning session includes
instructional strategies that involve student use of online tools
and apps. These online tools and apps present potential liability
issues related to student privacy, safety, and the protection of
student data. Washoe County School District is working to establish
policies that enable appropriate educational uses of these tools,
and does not presently support specific online tools and apps. For
each tool or app you use, especially those in which students are
required to create an account or use an email address to register,
and those in which student-created material may be viewed online, it
is your responsibility to familiarize yourself with the relevant
laws related to student online data and privacy, including CIPA,
COPPA, and FERPA, and the tool or app’s Terms of Service. You should
also consult with your site administrator and seek written
permission from parents for the use of the tool or app.
