CHINESE LITERATURE is one of the major literary heritages of the world, with an uninterrupted history of more than 3,000 years. the body of works written in Chinese, including lyric poetry, historical and didactic writing, drama, and various forms of fiction.
The earliest Chinese poetry begins with the Shih Ching , a collection of 305 poems of varying length, drawn from all ranks of Chinese society.
Characteristics recorded in handwriting or in print and purports to make an aesthetic appeal to the reader that is visual as well as aural. It has end rhyme tonal metre for its cadence. compactness and brevity.
Confucius was one of the most influential figures in the history of China. In his philosophy, he emphasized personal and governmental morality, correctness of social relationships, justice and sincerity.
Greatest Chinese Poets Wang Wei - a musician and the traditional father of monochrome landscape painting, was also a great poet. One of Wang Wei's famous poems is "One-hearted" (Xiang Si 相思 ):

Li Bai - a lover of detachment and freedom, deliberately avoided the lüshi and chose the less formal verse forms to sing of friendship or wine. An example is the poem “To Danqiu ,” translated by Arthur Waley .

Du Fu – an observer of the political and social scene who criticized injustice wherever he found it and who clearly understood the nature of the great upheaval following the rebellion of dissatisfied generals Criticism of Du Fu's works has focused on his strong sense of history, his moral engagement, and his technical excellence.
DU FU
JAPANESE LITERATURE Is one of the major literatures of the world comparable to English literature in age and variety. Poems and odes to the Gods were composed in the early Japanese Language before the art of writing was known in Japan.
Type of Japanese Poetry Haiku -a Japanese poem of seventeen syllables, in three lines of five, seven, and five, traditionally evoking images of the natural world.
Example of Haiku
Tanka -a Japanese poem consisting of five lines, the first and third of which have five syllables and the other seven, making 31 syllables in all and giving a complete picture of an event or mood.

Characteristics In written form from at least the 8 th century AD to the present. One of the oldest and richest national literatures. Since the late 1800’s Japanese writings have become increasingly familiar abroad.
The language used in the works of this period differs significantly from later periods in both its grammar and phonolgy . Even in this early era, significant dialect differences within Japanese are apparent.
Famous Authors Matsuo Bashō - is recognized as the greatest master of haiku His poems were influenced by his firsthand experience of the world around him, often encapsulating the feeling of a scene in a few simple elements.
Bashō wrote Oku no Hosomichi a major work in the form of a travel diary and considered "one of the major texts of classical Japanese literature.
Matsuo Bashō
Fukuda Chiyo-ni - is widely regarded as one of the greatest haiku poets. Before her time, haiku by women were often dismissed and ignored. Her dedication toward her career not only paved a way for her career but it also opened a path for other women to follow.
Her early poems were influenced by Matsuo Bashō . Her poems, although mostly dealing with nature, work for unity of nature with humanity.
