Literary Journalism This is a genre that bears close affinity to journalistic writing. It involves the journalist’s closeness to the topic, literally and figuratively. This requires research on the part of the author to make a compelling and credible discussion of the topic. Compared to the conventional journalism (the direct telling of facts), this genre may use characterization, plots and dialogues to tell a compelling and character-driven story. examples:

Hyperpoetry A kind of poetry that could not be read without a computer. A poem of this kind can be presented with moving images, or is electronically linked to other poems.

Watch me weep: Butterflies by Lira Kale Pajarillo How nice is it to be a butterfly One that frolics across the gardens Of succulent flowers, all vibrant One that is admired for the beauty of being a nature’s gift to man Tell me, one pretty butterfly! Have time for me soon. Tell me next to your admirers About how it is to be Adored and paid homage Inside a glistening crystal glass frame. https://youtu.be/q54l5U3yXOw

Textula A kind of poem that traces its origins to the traditional Tagalog form of poetry called tanaga . A tanaga is a poem with four lines with 7 syllables each and may vary in terms of rhyme scheme. Text tula or textula employs communication technology in the sharing of tanaga . In other words, it is a tanaga shared through” texting.”

Fliptop This is also known as rap battle and is considered as a contemporary type of poetry, combining theatre, poetry, and music. It traces its origins to the hip-hop culture which includes the rap, disc jockeying, and break dancing. Unlike traditional poetry, the rap used in Fliptop Battle is meant to be heard or listened to for better appreciation . It promotes freedom of expression, freedom from censorship, and paves an avenue for creative expression of rhythmic poetry through colourful language. This is similar to balagtasan .

The rap used in Fliptop Battle centers around three important elements: 1. Content, which is the poetry component; 2. Flow, which is the use of rhythm and rhyme; and 3. Delivery, which pertains to the performance. In the Philippines, rappers Francis M. and Andrew E. popularized rap in the Philippines in the 80’s and 90’s. Fliptop Battle reached its universal fanbase in 2006 through Youtube and other social media outlets. Alaric Riam Yuson ( Anygma ) started fliptop battle in the Philippines in 2010. Abra Bassilyo Loonie Smugglaz Shernan
