Hot Metal Transportation System Introduction -The ladle car is a special vehicle used for transporting the molten iron to steel making plants or foundries. Also it can hold molten iron when it is not balance between iron making and steel making. Mainly two types of transportation system used Open top ladles -An open-topped cylindrical container made of heavy steel plates and lined with refractory.

Hot Metal Transportation System 2. Torpedo ladle cars -Torpedo ladle cars are used to transfer molten iron from the iron-making section of the plant to the steel-making section. We are using 280 T capacity Torpedo Ladle at our Angul Plant.Total 14 nos. Torpedo are with us of which 12 nos. are supplied by Qniye and 2 nos. are our own JSP Raipur make.

Hot Metal Transportation System Torpedo Ladle Open Top Ladle     1.Low heat loss 1.More Heat Loss 2.Pouring can be done in 2.No control while a controlled way pouring 3.Refractory removal and 3.Less time required for   relining is time taking. refractory removal and relining 4.More maintenance. 4.Less maintenance required required . 5.We can transport hot 5.We can not transport metal by ladle to long metal by Ladle to long distance due to low heat distance due to more loss. heat loss. .

Hot Metal Transportation System Major parts of TLC Travelling assembly Tilting assembly Vessel assembly

Hot Metal Transportation System Travelling assembly - Traveling assembly is composed of upper frame, lower frame, two axis bogie, coupler and buffer, parking brake.

Hot Metal Transportation System Buffer Coupler assy. Wheel Brake Assy.

Hot Metal Transportation System 2) Tilting assembly -The tilting part is composed of 2X7.5kw AC motors, planetary gear reducer ,DC electromagnetic brake and gear.

Hot Metal Transportation System 3) Vessel assembly - The welded vessel consist of one cylindrical vessel section, two conical transition section and two cylindrical end section .The filling/pouring spout have been welded at the center of the vessel to ensure proper filling and pouring of hot metal.

Details of 280t torpedo Ladle car Type -TLC is multiple axis bogies Weight of the TLC - 585 t( Car+new lining+hot metal) - 610 t( Car+worn out lining+hot metal) Loaded capability -280t (new lining) -320t (Worn lining) Dead Weight -305t (Car 160t+New lining 145 t) -290t (Car160t+worn out lining130 t) Diameter - Diameter 3300 mm Spout size - 2450x1000mm (After brickwork) Linking speed -Below 3 km/hr Running speed -Below 15km/hr (Loaded condition) - Below 20 km/hr (Empty condition) Hot Metal Transportation System

Details of 280t torpedo Ladle car Passes curve speed -7-8 km/hr Length - 26712 mm ( distance of coupler knuckle Wheel Type -Forged steel wheel Wheel Bearing -Tapered roller bearing Center disc -Planner center disc and arc center disc Coupler type -Big angle of swing coupler Buffer - ST buffer Tilting assembly - Tilting with motor Angle of tilting -Normal 120 degree max.360 degree Speed of tilting -0.2-0.02r/min Motor wattage - 7.5 kw Tilting mechanism - Motor+planetory G/ B+pin gear Hot Metal Transportation System

Details of Tilting Assembly Tilting assembly comprises Motor - 7.5 kw Coupling - Pin bush coupling Brake - DCEM brake Gearbox - Planetary gearbox - Bearing Housing Gear - Pin gear (Pinion) Limit switch - Cam type limit switch - Coupler - Rotary lever limit switch At present we are using Teflon pins as the weakest part & the coupling is a somewhat self aligned type.
