?The second tenet of faith for Muslims
is belief in angels.
?Angels are conscious beings who are
created from noor(light), hence they
do not eat or drink as humans do.
?The Prophet Muhammad said 7KH
angels are created from light, just as
the jinn are created from smokeless
fire and mankind is created from what
you have been told about." [Muslim].
?Angels are genderless, neither male
nor female.
?Consequently, they do not reproduce.

?Angels follow all commands of God
and do not have the capacity to sin.
?However, angels are not robots.
?They have consciousness and
intelligence.
?God does not need angels to do His
work.
?Angels study both the material and
LPPDWHULDOGLPHQVLRQVRI*RGV
dominion in adoration and get a
satisfaction from observing the
manifestations of His Grace and
Majesty.

?There are countless angels across
the universe and on earth.
?There are four archangels, -LEUDLO
(Gabriel), 0LNKDLO(Michael), $]UDLO
(Angel of Death), and ?VUDILO
(Raphael).
?There are angels assigned to every
human being who records the good
and bad deeds of that person.
?In short, angels are pure beings
who follow the commands of God.
?They witness the glory of God when
His commands show their effect in
the universe. Therefore they exalt
and praise God constantly.

?There are many other kinds of angels.
For example,
?Two angels, Kiraman-Katibeen,are
present on either side of human
beings, one recording his good
deeds while the other recording
the bad deeds. These records will
be revealed on the Day of
Judgement to the person and all
humanity.
?Munkar-wa-Nakrwill question
every person in the grave. At this
time of questioning, it will be the
soul answering the questions
depending on the true beliefs and
life lived by the individual.
?There are also angels that protect
humans,

?There is great comfort for Muslims
knowing that there are angels all
around them
?Angels are also a means for the
remembrance of God. For example:
?Before a Muslim acts they know their
deeds will be recorded
?In a religious gathering, angels attend
in abundance

?Belief in life after death is the fifth tenet
of Islamic faith.

of Allah's Mercy!-how He gives life to the
earth after its death: verily the same will
give life to the men who are dead: for He

?It would be the most important after the
belief in the existence and unity of God.
?In the Islamic context, resurrection refers
to coming back to life one more time
after death in flesh and spirit for an
everlasting life.

?At the moment of death, the
angel of death appears in
different forms relative to a
SHUVRQVIDLWKDQGGHHGV
?If a person had faith and
overall goodness, the angel will
appear as a beautiful human
and take the soul like hair from
butter.
?Conversely, if a person had no
faith or was bad overall, the

horrible and the separation of
the spirit will be painful.

?After the total separation of the spirit
from the body, the spirit will be
ascended to the heavens to the
presence of God (without seeing God)
through a parade of angels praising
the soul if good or shouting
damnations if bad:
?Afterwards, the spirit will descend
back to earth and place of burial.
?The spirit now lives in what is called
WKH?QWHUPHGLDWH:RUOGbarzakh
4XUDQ100),which is like the
foyer of a hotel. The spirit resides in
this realm until the Day of Judgment
and resurrection.

?At the place of burial,
which could be the grave
of a person, the spirit is
visited by two angels,
MunkarwaNakr.
?These two angels
approach the soul and
ask three questions:
?Who is your god?
?What is your religion?
?Who is your prophet?

?According to the answers given
and life lead during the earthly
life there are three possible
outcomes for a person in this
Intermediate World.
1.The grave enlarges and
becomes a window opening
onto a world of light and bliss.
Although one is not in
Paradise, one views his or her
place in paradise and rests
until the Day of Judgment.
2.The grave tightens and
becomes an imprisonment.
3.It becomes a place of
punishment until the Day of
Judgment.

?There will come a predetermined
time when God will decide to end
the universe as a place of testing
This will be the death of this
universe.
?7KHODVWKRXU4XUDQRIWKH
earth and the universe will be
cataclysmic.
?Archangel Israfilwill blow a cosmic
horn which will trigger the
beginning of the end of the
universe.
?The cosmic space will be split, stars
will lose their orbit and the balance
of gravitation will collapse, the seas
will burst and dry up and the earth
will be flattened.

?The following points are
important in the judgement
process:
?Salvation ultimately is received out of
*RGVJUDFHrahma).
?God will consider both faith and good
deeds.
?Actions are judged according to
intentions.
?Since the heart is the seat for both
faith and intention (for deeds), a
sound heart is important.
?Both good deeds and bad deeds are
qualitatively and quantitatively
measured.
?God does not forgive transgressions
of human rights or associating
partners with Him.

k?65$$XVWUDOLDSlide 48

?Belief in an afterlife constantly
keeps Muslims mindful about
their actions
?It gives meaning and purpose for
even the smallest of acts/ good
deeds
?Alternatively, it also protects
Muslims from being negligent in
small matters
?It also provides reassurance that
injustices and tribulations
suffered in this life, will not go
unrewarded or unrectified in the
hereafter

?The Arabic term qadar
literally means measure and
amount.
?Qadarmeans that God
Almighty, through His infinite
knowledge:
?knows and specifies all beings and
events together with their states and
attributes, all the powers & abilities
they possess and the times and places
they all enter into existence.
?0XVOLPVEHOLHYHWKDW*RGV
Knowledge and Will is all-
encompassing.

?As far as humanity is concerned,
on the other hand, there is
freedom of choice.
?While qadar(Divine

future acts does not force a
person to commit those acts.
?God knows because He is not
bound by time as we are.

power resides with God.

?Knowledge and Will is all-
encompassing.
?Even the most significant event like
falling of a single leaf is within His
knowledge and does not happen
without His Will.
?On the other hand, the verse:
+XPDQEHLQJKDVQRWKLQJEXWZKDW
KHVWULYHVIRU4XUDQ
?tells us that humans strive, hence
decisions and action is a key
component in our lives.
?How should we understand this
situation?

k?65$$XVWUDOLDSlide 53
Works best with darker or very colourful images
?How does God know the future
events?
?God Almighty knows everything
past, present and future because
he is not bound by space and time.
?He was there before space and
time was created by Him.
?The freedom from space and time
gives God a unique perspective.
?For example, I may be standing on
a high rise building and hence I am
able to see greater distance than
people on the ground.

k?65$$XVWUDOLDSlide 54
Works best with lighter images
?I see a train approaching the train station 2
km away and inform the people waiting in
the station below that the train will come
exactly 15 minutes later assuming that I
am able to calculate the speed and
distance precisely.
?If the train comes at that time is it because
I said so?
?No, it was going to come anyway.
?The train in the distance was present to me
because of my higher vantage point, but it
was the future for the people on the
ground.
?In a similar way, what is future to us is like
the present to God as he is not bound by
space and time.

k?65$$XVWUDOLDSlide 55

?In Islam, God creates both good and evil;
?However, evil is executed as a
consequence of human choice.
?Creation of evil or allowing evil to happen
is not evil, but choosing evil is evil.
?If humans have choice, they must have
the option of evil otherwise there would
not be any difference between humans
and angels.
?Our good actions are more valuable
because of the possibility of evil.
?Responsibility and accountability is
attached to the freedom of choice.
?In this way God, manifests His justice and
compassion.

k?65$$XVWUDOLDSlide 56

?Belief in Qadarprovides a
balanced understanding of how
IUHHZLOODQG*RGVZLOOLQWHUDFW
?It allows humans to take
accountability for their own
actions, whilst simultaneously
making sense of unforeseen
circumstances and events
?Through understanding Qadar,
one develops a deeper
appreciation and understanding

and how it functions in everyday
life
