By Langston Hughes Thank you, ma’am Under what circumstance did Mrs. Jones and Roger meet? Why did the boy steal the lady’s purse? Was the reaction of Mrs. Jones believable? If you were Mrs. Jones, would you do the same thing? Do you think Roger’s encounter with Mrs. Jones changed his life? In what way?

Elements of a Story Character The characters are  the individuals that the story is about . The author should introduce the characters in the story with enough information that the reader can visualize each person.

Elements of a Story Theme The theme is the main idea the writer of the poem or story wants the reader to understand and remember. You may have used the word “Moral” in discussing theme, but it's not a good synonym because “moral” implies a positive meaning or idea.
