Planning and Conceptualizing ICT Projects for Social Change

This lesson was designed and written with you in mind. This will guide you in developing ICT projects for Social Change that will have an impact in the society through careful selection of ICT platform and an effective creation of a concept paper.

Identify platforms and applications that can be used as a medium for a social campaign and describe how they can be used effectively to reach their intended audience. A sample is given as your guide. Write your answer on a separate sheet of paper.

ICT Projects undergoes intensive planning and conceptualizing before implementation. It is important to have a clear plan of actions, budget, responsibilities, work requirements and timeframe. Examine the sample concept paper below. Can you identify the different parts of a concept paper?

When making a project, always start with the end in mind. Think outside the box and be creative in your content. Identify various opportunities based on your target audience. Set a goal to have a clear plan of actions, responsibilities, work requirements, timeframe and budget if needed.

Concept Paper Concept papers are summaries of projects or issues that contemplate interests, experience and expertise that commonly serve as a purpose of delivering an in-depth discussion of a certain topic that a person has a strong position on. It can also be used as a mainstream educational tool to develop and to create solution to a certain problem or issue. It provides guidance for the implementation of a project and gives good practices, viewpoint, advocacy, belief and values or other correlated issues that need and promote actions to be taken in the future. Your concept paper can range from two (2) to three (3) pages for a small research project and up to 20 pages for immense projects. For formatting, the following are suggested: a. Font Style – It should be formal such as Times New Roman, Garamond, Baskerville, or similar Serif typefaces b. Line and Paragraph Spacing – Double space c. Font Size – 12 points

Key Points on Making Your Concept Paper 1. Raise with a concept topic or idea that you are genuinely interested. 2. Write down the questions associated with the topic or idea you have chosen. 3. Create a possible solution from each of the questions that you have developed. 4. Classify what kind of data you need that will answer your questions and identify how you will gather the information needed. 5. Identify how you will analyze, interpret, and present the overall data you gathered.

Elements of a Concept Paper • Title Page – The title of your concept paper will serve a lot in terms of getting the audience interest, so make sure to have a short but a catchy and interesting title of your chosen issue. Stick to the main point of the chosen topic and use relevant, easy-to-understand words and be concise. • Introduction – This element of a concept paper is the most important part since you must keep on pursuing and adding value to convince the reader about your project’s mission and vision. In this part, you should detail your mission, vision, and goal in taking up this project. You need to elaborate and identify it by providing them the urge of solving an existing problem and to provide meaningful insights in your project because introduction is critical. You need to make a clear and good impression to stakeholders.

The following should appear in your introduction: a. The clear problem you wanted to solve. b. The reason why you undertake this project c. How would this project be helpful for others? d. Provide evidence that this project is beneficial and necessary

• Purpose – This element of a concept paper includes the reasons why your chosen project or advocacy campaign is worth all the time, effort and money. You need to make a strong atmosphere of purpose. Remember your main purpose here is to bring something good and create an impact for a change.

• Description – This element includes all the necessary information, data and details about your project. It discusses the steps and procedures on how you will do things properly. It also expounds the methods and plans on how you will answer the problems of the issue and in revealing the efficacy of your solution to the problems.

• Support – This element contains your budget needed for the project. Every project needs funds to be published and materialized. Support does not only mean monetary in nature, but it can also be moral support from your friends, relatives and among others.

• Contact Information – This element includes information on how to contact you. It is important to provide your name, office address, contact number, email address, and website of your project.

Directions : In a separate sheet of paper, create your own concept paper that discusses your chosen local or regional social issue related to your Senior High School track and that will serve as your Social Advocacy for your proposed ICT Project for Social Change.
