3-4 Solving Multi-Step Inequalities

Solving Two-Step Inequalities Just like solving equations, EXCEPT: If you × or ÷ by a negative number, reverse the inequality symbol ! Example 1: Solve . Graph the solution.

You Try! Solve 4b – 1 < 7. Graph the solution.

Multi-Step Inequalities Example 2: Solve 5x – 2x + 7 ≤ 15 + 10. Graph the solution.

You Try! Solve 7b – 12b + 1 > 8 - 22. Graph the solution.

Special Cases If you get and inequality that is ALWAYS TRUE : answer is “all real numbers.” Example: -5 < 0 If you get and inequality that is NEVER TRUE : answer is “no solutions.” Example: 3 < -2

Example 3 Solve 8x – 3 > 4(2x + 3).

Example 4 Solve 2(5x – 1) ≤ 7 + 10x.

You Try! Solve 2(k – 5) < 2k + 5
