describe the different levels of biological organization from cell to biosphere
(S7LT-IIc-3). The scope of this module allows you to use it in many different learning
situations. The language used recognizes the diverse vocabulary level of students.
The lessons are arranged to follow the standard sequence of the course. But the
order in which you read them can be changed to correspond with the textbook you
are now using.

After going through this module, you are expected to
1. demonstrate the different levels of understanding of the different
levels of biological organization,
2. infer that smaller structures (cell) will affect the bigger structure
(organism), and
3. understand that the structures work together to carry out specific
functions to make the organism meet its basic needs and survive.

Levels of biological organization refers to the hierarchy of biological
structures and systems that define life.

The cell is the basic unit of life. There are two kinds of cells: plant cells, which have
a rigid cell wall made of cellulose molecules, and animal cells, which have flexible
cell membranes.




A Tissue is made of cells that work together to perform a certain task. Muscle
tissue, connective tissue, and neural tissue are some types of tissue.

An Organ is a system of tissues that work together on a larger scale to do certain
jobs within an animal's body. Examples of organs are the brain, heart and lungs.








Organ system is a group of organs that work together to perform specific bodily
functions. For example respiratory system and circulatory system.
Plants are also made up of organ systems: the root and shoot systems. The root
system absorbs water and nutrients; the shoot system moves them to the different
parts of the plant.
An Organism is a recognizable, self-contained individual. Organisms can
be unicellular organisms such as bacteria or amoebae, or multi-cellular organisms
comprised of organs and organ systems. A human being is an example of a multi-
cellular organism.

Population is a group of one kind of organism (species) in an area that can
interbreed & make fertile offspring.

Community is a several populations of organisms in an area (animals in the zoo)

Ecosystem. All the living (biotic) and nonliving (abiotic) parts of an environment.
(Tropical rain forest, grassland, etc.)

Biosphere is all the living and nonliving things on Earth.

The circulatory system is one of the organ systems that make
up an organism. It is made up of the heart, blood vessels, and blood.
Your heart is about the size of your fist. It pumps and circulates blood
to the different parts of the body through the blood vessels. Certain
diseases affect the heart and cause it to function improperly. Organs
such as the heart are made up of tissues. The heart, kidneys, and
the parts that make them up are made up of tissues. This tissue is
made up of cells -the basic units of structure and function in
organisms.

Cell as being the building block of an organism is important since an
