Mood Disorders Most people have experienced feeling sad or irritable in some occassions. They often say that they are in bad mood. Having a bad mood is different from mood disorder It can increase the risk for non communicabe diseases like heart disease, diabetes, etc. One in ten people aged eighteen and above have mood disorders.

Some treatments include : medication, psychotheraphy, or a combination of both under the prescription and; supervision of a psychiatrist or doctor

Bipolar disorder have two phases/poles Manic phase - it is characterized by overactivity and restlessness. in this phase, the manic person has high energy level. the person talks extremely fast but cannot stay on one subject.

Depressive phase - it happens after the manic phase. it is characterized by sadness, little initiative, less self -confidence and physical activity and by a feeling that there is not much point in doing anything.

PREVENTION,COPING,AND TREATMENT Bipolar disorder is best treated by medications, psychotherapy,or a combination of both

Schizophrenia The term itself means “split mind” which refers to a breakdown in a logical thought process. It characterized by having both hallucinations and delusions.

Positive symptoms HALLUCINOGENS - It is sensing (seeing,hearing, feeling, smelling and even tasting) things that are real. DELUSIONS - It is a misinterpretation of perceptions or experiences. THOUGHT AND MOVEMENT DISORDER - It is the unusual or dysfunctional ways of thinking, speech,and body movements.

Negative symptoms EMOTIONAL UNRESPONSIVENESS- It shows a “flat effect;” reduced expression of emotions either by facial or body language. AVOLITION - It show lack of motivation or having difficulty to do things. SOCIAL WITHDRAWAL - It shows social isolation; lack of contact with other person.

Cognitive symptoms- are changes in the memory of the person that causes poor thought processes. PREVENTION, COPING, and TREATMENT Persons with schizophrenia need full support and care provided by the family and community.
