MARTIN LUTHER'S
CONTRIBUTION
•German clergyman Martin Luther
launched the
Protestant Movement against
corruption in the Church. He
translated the Bible into German
and set up an independent church.
•Luther travelled extensively to
different parts of Europe, Germany,
Norway, Sweden and Denmark.
Lutheranism was recognised as a
legal form of Christianity by a
treaty known as 'The Peace of
Augsburg' in 1555.
Counter Reformation
•The Catholic Reformation was the
intellectual counter-force to
Protestantism. The desire for reform
within the Catholic Church had
started before the spread of Luther.
Many educated Catholics had wanted

•Counter-Reformation, also called
Catholic Reformation or Catholic Revival,
in the history of Christianity, the Roman
Catholic efforts directed in the 16th and
early 17th centuries both against the
