FACIAL ASSISTING SURFACE EMG
Roland Reyna, Anthony Bidault, Abimael Villarreal, Jeremiah Hall
Abstract
The main objective of our design is to
assist those who suffer from Bell's palsy
in training their body in the use of their
facial motor units, as well as providing
diagnostic data for doctors assisting the
victims. This will require the use of
EMG sensors, A2D converters, as well
as mathematical analysis of the
converted data using advanced computer
algorithms.

Conclusion
We are still completing this project and
expanding it even further to help not
only mobility back to the face but also
other affected parts of the body such as
the legs, arms, feet, and hands. A
profitable side effect is that this device
can then be marketed as anti-aging
device. More research is still being done
in this area.
Initially, our device was to autocorrect facial
symmetry in order to achieve muscle movements
back into the side of the face that was affected
through means of actual muscle
contractions/shocking. However, we had to modify
our design to the constraints of the EE 4813 class
which meant that we were not allowed to use actual
test subjects. Therefore, we had to integrate a design
that changed the symmetry of a 3D scan of a
person’s face. This would give a foundation and
experience to then work on an actual patient’s face.

Results/Future Design
Due to the complexity of the above 3D scan,
manipulation to a simple 3D model was used
