▪Localanesthetics(LAs)aredrugswhichtemporarilyblocknervesignals,causinganumbing
effectinaspecificarea.
▪Theycanbeadministeredtopically(appliedtotheskinormucousmembranes)orthroughlocal
injectiontonumbtheareaaroundasurgicalsite,nerve,orothertargetedlocation.
▪Intheappliedareatheycausereversiblelossofsensoryperception,especiallyofpainby
blockingthegenerationandconductionofnerveimpulsewithintheneurons,withoutcausing
anystructuraldamage.
▪Theyinterruptedbothsensory&motorimpulse,resultinginmuscularparalysisandlossof
autonomiccontrolaswell.
