1. ‘The Misadventures of the
Teenage Mind’

2. FADE IN:
INT. TEEN BEDROOM. DAY .


LOTTIE CONCH is typing on her laptop in bed. She’s not ready.
Noticing the time, she puts the laptop on the be dside table
open. She tucks her t-shirt in, reaches for her watch to
reveal the DVD case showing PEPPERMINT ATHOS on the cover.

PEPPERMINT ATHOS
“poor and out of character” Out of
character?! Has he even seen the
pilot?

Peppermint clicks away the tab, revealing the lock screen
featuring JARETH. Jareth pushes down the lap top screen,
leaning on the bed.

JARETH
You aren’t even in the pilot
Pepper.

PEPPERMINT
Maybe so Jareth, but the pilot
explicitly states that Barbarians
hate change and I am a Barbarian.

Lottie starts to brush her hair. NOAH PORTER leans next to the
vanity/mirror clutchi ng a book. He smiles at Lottie.

NOAH PORTER
Next one’s about me, right?

LOTTIE
Obviously.

She taps his nose in affection, and starts to apply mascara.
Jareth leans on her shoulder and s miles at them both in the
mirror.

JARETH
Don’t do that.

There is a pause, Jareth continues to smile but it doesn’t
feel friendly anymore. Lottie stops smiling and puts the
mascara down without applying it. Jareth nods and moves on.

JARETH
Hurry, you’ll be later for school.
(CONT)

3. Lottie moves for her bag, which Peppermint has already packed
for her. She hands it too her.

LOTTIE
I need a book, Noah any ideas?

Noah steps forward.

NOAH
Have this one. It’s got me in it.

He winks at her, she rolls her eyes but takes it anyway. Her
phone rings, its ‘Nat’. She goes to pick up. Peppermint stops
her.

PEPPERMINT
Don’t do that.
Beat.
She’s probably calling the wrong
number.

She smiles. Lottie nods and puts her phone away still ringing.

JARETH
Come on, we’ll be late.

Lottie turns to leave the bedroom, they others stay still as
she leaves. Their facial expressions are flat when her back is
turned.

CUT TO:
EXT. COLLEGE GREEN. DAY.

Lottie walks onto the green alone, she sees a large group of
people. NAT GREEN waves, Lottie smiles and goes to join them.
Noah stops her.

NOAH
Don’t do that. You have work to
do.

The others are with her now, Lottie nods and sits alone.

JARETH
You’re really on top of your
homework at the moment, I’m rea lly
proud of you Lottie.

Lottie smiles, flustered. From the group Nat is unsure why
Lottie isn’t sitting with them.
(CONT)

4. NAT
One sec guys.

She gets up and walks over to Lottie. Lottie is shocked her
crush is even coming near her.
NAT
Hey, you okay?

LOTTIE
Yeah, yeah, just got work to do
you know…

NAT
Yeah…Um, I’m having a party
tonight and I get that its late
notice, but I never see you these
days. I know they aren’t really
your scene, but I want you
there…so…

While she’s talking the others begin to argue over the top of
her.
PEPPERMINT
Don’t do that, you know she’s only
asking because she feels sorry for
you.

NOAH
You don’t need her pity; you’ll
only feel stupid anyway. Don’t do
that.

JARETH
Don’t do that, you have nothing
good enough to wear, y ou’ll end up
feeling fat the whole night.

Lottie smiles wide, it’s like for the first time she can only
hear Nat.
LOTTIE
Yes! Yes, I’d love to go.

NAT
Cool, cool, I’ll see you there.

Nat walks away, looking back twice, grinning. The others look
shocked but all smile at Lottie when she looks at them.
(CONT)

5. FADE TO:
INT. TEEN BEDROOM. NIGHT

Lottie is checking out her dress using her phone camera.
Pepper stands next to her, arms cro ssed. Jareth is sitting on
the bed, and Noah is leaning in the background. There is a
weird silence.

LOTTIE
What do you think?

PEPPERMINT
You’re making a mistake.

JARETH
You look lovely. Peppermint is
right though.

LOTTIE
Noah?

Noah looks at Jareth, who glares. Noah shakes his head.

I want to go…can I go to one
party.

Jareth gets up and walks towards her.

JARETH
Of course, not this one.

Lottie pushes him off. Walks to her makeup and starts
applying.
Don’t do that.

Lottie ignores him. Noah approaches.

NOAH
Come on, I thought you were
writing me fanfiction tonight. Do
you want to disappoint your
followers?

PEPPERMINT
Yeah, if you miss tonight you
won’t have posted in three days.

LOTTIE
(quietly) Shut up.
(CONT)

6. The others freeze, faces drop for a moment then back to
normal.
JARETH
You don’t mean that.

LOTTIE
I do. Shut up, for one night shut
up.

They all move towards her . She gets up and meets Jareth in the
middle.
Please. Please give me one night.

JARETH
Don’t do this.

The room explodes they are all yelling over each other.

PEPPERMINT, NOAH, JARETH
Don’t do that.
They repeat this.
LOTTIE
Stop it! Stop it! Stop, stop it!

She backs up, they back in. She covers her ears and closes her
eyes.

Don’t do that!

The sound cuts out. She uncovers her ears but keeps her eyes
closed for a beat. When she opens them, she is alone? It takes
a second to sink in.

No, no, no. Please I’m sorry I
didn’t mean it, come back . I need
you, don’t leave me alone , I can’t
do this without you. Noah! Pepper!

She is moving round the room franticly, looking for them under
things, as if they are hiding in one of the drawers. She stops
and looks around the empty room.

Jareth.

She begins to trash her room, pulling posters off t he walls.
She’s screaming and crying. Eventually she sinks to the floor,
head in her knees. Her phone rings, its Nat.
CUT TO:
BLACK
