The 5-Step Writing Process Brainstorming to Publishing
The 5-Step Writing Process Every writer follows his or her own writing process. Often the process is a routine that comes naturally and is not a step-by-step guide to which writers refer. Being conscious of your own writing process is especially helpful when you find yourself struggling with a particularly tricky piece. Here are five steps towards creating or identifying your personal writing process.
1. Prewriting This is the planning phase of the writing process, when students: Choose a topic Brainstorm Outline ideas Order the idea Know audience and purpose
Example - Over slept - Rain like cat and dog - Flat-tire - Heavy traffic jam - Accident The Worst Day
2. Drafting Students create their initial composition by writing down all their ideas in an organized way of your writing from start to finish. Use your notes about your idea and organization.
2. Drafting The Worst Day ( TS) On Friday this week was my terrible day. (SS1) When I woke up for my first day of my new term at my university, unfortunately, it was 10 o’clock. So, I got up immediately to prepare myself for my study. ( SS2) When I just walked out the door, it suddenly started to rain like cat and dog. Then, I put on my raincoat, and I walked my bike out. (SS3) What’s a day! My bike got a flat tire. (CS) As a result, I missed my first day of my class.
3. Revising Students review, modify, and reorganize their work by rearranging, adding, or deleting content, and by making the tone, style, and content appropriate for the intended audience. The goal of this phase of the writing process is to improve the draft.
4. Editing Sometimes called “Proofreading” Read your text again. This time, check your spelling and grammar and think about the words you have chosen to use.
5. Publishing In this last step of the writing process, the final writing is shared with the group. Sharing can be accomplished in a variety of ways, and with the help of computers, it can even be printed or published online.
