7-Wastes (+1)

Purpose: To introduce the concept of waste within any operation. To provide some examples of where/how waste occurs. To categorise waste. To raise awareness. To provoke discussion.

Who is TIM WOOD? (and what’s he doing in our factory??)

T – Transport – Moving people, products & information I – Inventory – Storing parts, pieces, documentation ahead of requirements M – Motion – Bending, turning, reaching, lifting W – Waiting – For parts, information, instructions, equipment, materials O – Over production – Making more than is IMMEDIATELY required O – Over processing – Tighter tolerances or higher grade materials than are necessary, over-testing, repeating actions unnecessarily D – Defects – Rework, scrap, incorrect documentation S – Skills – Under utilising capabilities OR delegating tasks with inadequate training 7-Wastes

Back to work ……. So knowing what you now know, how do you see your workplace.. What is good/bad/what fits into each category of waste? Is your workspace Fit for purpose? Impacting on others?
