Intercultural Friendship and Social Networks Intercultural friendship is a personal connection or affiliation forged between people who have a different cultural background. Increasingly, these interpersonal relationships entail the use of a second language (e.g. an international language or lingua franca) by one or more of the friendship partners. Rooted in anthropology, a social network refers to ‘the multiple web of relationships an individual contracts in a society with other people who he or she is bound to directly or indirectly by ties of friendship, kinship or other social relationships.
