What is a complex sentence? Complex sentences are like a well-prepared dish in Malaysian cuisine— rich, layered, and full of flavors! C omplex sentences are made up of one independent clause connected to one or more dependent clause . Example: “ I went to the pasar malam because I wanted to buy some kuih ,”

Example of a complex sentence Independent Clause: This is the main part of the sentence that can stand alone and makes complete sense by itself. For example, in the sentence “I went to the pasar malam because i want to buy some kuih,” the i ndependent clause is “I went to the pasar malam.”

Example of a complex sentence Dependent Clause: This part adds extra details or context and cannot stand alone as a complete sentence. For instance, in the sentence “I went to the pasar malam because I wanted to buy some kuih,” the dependent clause is “because I wanted to buy some kuih.” It explains why you went to the pasar malam.

Can you add a dependent clause BEFORE an independent clause? YES, you can! However, you must include a comma after the dependent clause. These are called Periodic complex sentences.
