The Reign of King David A Timeline of His Life and Kingship

Pre-Kingship (c. 1040–1010 BC) - 1040 BC – David is born in Bethlehem. - 1025 BC – Anointed by Samuel as the future king (1 Samuel 16). - 1020 BC – Defeats Goliath and gains fame (1 Samuel 17). - 1015-1010 BC – Flees from Saul, lives as an outlaw, and gathers followers.

David as King of Judah (1010–1003 BC) - 1010 BC – Saul dies in battle; David becomes king of Judah in Hebron (2 Samuel 2). - 1008 BC – Civil war with Saul’s son Ishbosheth, who rules Israel. - 1003 BC – Ishbosheth is assassinated, and David is crowned king over all Israel (2 Samuel 5).

David as King of All Israel (1003–970 BC) – Part 1 - 1003 BC – Captures Jerusalem and makes it the capital (2 Samuel 5:6-9). - c. 1000 BC – Brings the Ark of the Covenant to Jerusalem (2 Samuel 6). - c. 999 BC – God establishes the Davidic Covenant, promising David’s dynasty will last forever (2 Samuel 7). - c. 995-990 BC – Expands Israel’s territory through military victories (2 Samuel 8-10).
