Abelardo Vicioso Abelardo Vicioso was a prominent Dominican poet, novelist, politician, and lawyer, considered one of the best poets in the Dominican Republic.

Life He was born on April 27, 1930, in Santo Domingo and was the eldest of five siblings. Despite suffering from a hereditary disease, he showed great talent and dedication to literature from an early age.

Literary Career His literary career in 1948, writing his first poems in the newspaper El Caribe. At the age of twenty-eight, he won the National Poetry Prize and wrote several poetry books that were highly successful. In 1964, he married and had two children. During the occupation of 1965, his poem "Canto a Santo Domingo Vertical" became a symbol of struggle.

Work life Throughout his life, Vicioso held various professions, including lawyer, military, judge, poet, and teacher. He was a member of several political parties and held important positions in the government. He also wrote his only autobiographical novel, "Las memorias del Teniente Veneno ," in 2004.

Legacy He received numerous awards and recognitions for his outstanding literary work and his commitment to justice and equality. He was decorated with the Order of Duarte, Sánchez, and Mella by the Dominican Government and was president of honor of several literary organizations. He passed away on January 13, 2004, leaving a legacy of poetry and social commitment that is still remembered in the Dominican Republic.

Friendship Medal from the Cuban Council for his work as President of the Dominican Committee of Friends of Cuba. National Poetry Prize Gastón F. Deligne 1958 for La Lumbre Sacudida . National History Prize José Gabriel García 1979 for Santo Domingo en L etras Coloniales , 1492-1800 Order of Duarte, Sánchez y Mella , in the rank of Commander, awarded by the Dominican Government (1999).
