ACHIEVING CULTURAL SYNTHESIS Hannah B. Limongco Education and Philippine Culture Values
CULTURE A culture is a way of life of a group of people--the behaviors, beliefs, values, and symbols that they accept, generally without thinking about them, and that are passed along by communication and imitation from one generation to the next.
Synthesis It means to combine a number of different pieces into a whole.
CULTURAL SYNTHESIS Cultural Synthesis (Syncretism) the blending of two or more cultural influences. Acculturation. the exchange of cultural features that results when groups of individuals having different cultures come into continuous contact; the original cultures may be altered, but the groups remain distinct.
CULTURAL SYNTHESIS Philippine Culture is in transition and the traditional values are continually challenged by new ideas brought about by modernization and the complexity of life today. The fast phase of life today has brought about greater mobility and more opportunities for contact with other cultures.

CULTURE CHANGE CAN ACHIEVE THROUGH: BY ACCIDENT Large group Whole society itself BY DIRECTION It means having a clear aim or purpose with full determination. School Teachers can do a lot to direct the trend of culture change by teaching the right value to the student whose minds are still malleable and teachable
Conclusion Every nation has it’s own various values, and the Philippines is no exception. Even if we were colonized by several colonizers, many values from our ancestors remained essential up to this moment. Values give purpose and direction to the lives of people within the society. It give meaning and significance to their life and to the totality of the society. In the context of education, the negative impacts that are brought by those values can slowly corrected by the teachers in order to preserve those standards and for the benefits of the young ones. Teachers are set to be good exemplars on how to showcase our cultural values.
