Achieving Zero Wastewater Discharge in Coal Mining: Advanced Treatment Methods Noushad Zaman Efa (202234017)

Ground Water ‌Groundwater is the water present beneath Earth's surface in rock and soil pore spaces and in the fractures of rock formations.‌ About 30 percent of all readily available freshwater in the world is groundwater . Wasting water in mining ‌Groundwater can be wasted during mining operations through excessive extraction, inefficient water management practices, and contamination from mining activities. ‌This can lead to depletion of aquifers, ecosystem damage, and water quality degradation. Problem Statement The need to develop a water reclamation system for Optimum Coal Mine, aimed at treating excess mine water to meet drinking water standards. This task involves addressing specific challenges such as the neutral pH of the mine water feed and the requirement for oxidation of iron and manganese. The solution must incorporate advanced technology, like the HiPRo ® Process, while ensuring sustainability, minimal waste generation, and the production of high-quality drinking water. Achieving zero wastewater discharge ‌Coal mining in Bangladesh poses challenges due to wastewater generation .‌ Environmental regulations require strict wastewater management . ‌Zero discharge initiatives are gaining traction to protect water resources and the environment.

Objectives To evaluate effectiveness and adaptability of HiPRo ® Process at Optimum Coal Mine. To assess ability to produce high-quality drinking water. To minimize waste generation.
