Passive and Active Voice. English Home Language 12 May 2024
The Subject, Verb & Object. Subject – Is the person or thing doing the action. Verb – is the word that expresses what that action is. Object – Whoever or whatever that receives the action.
What is Passive and Active Voice? In the Active Voice the subject of the sentence DOES the action. In the Passive Voice the object becomes the subject and is having the action done to it. In order to identify whether a sentence is in active or passive voice you need to see the order that these parts go in. Example: Active: Anele purchased a new dress. Passive: A new dress was purchased by Anele.
When do we use passive AND active voice? ACTIVE VOICE. we use the active voice when we want to emphasize the SUBJECT. Example: The company hired new workers. PASSIVE VOICE. We use the passive voice when we want to emphasize the OBJECT or when the subject is unknown. Example: new workers were hired by the company or new workers were hired.
