What is the boy doing? The boy is giving flower to the girl. Who gives the flower? The flower is given by the boy to the girl.

What is the boy doing? The boy is writing a letter. Who writes the letter? The letter is written by the boy.

Unlocking of unfamiliar terms

Arrange the scrambled letters to form the word(s) being define.

sectubj - the person or thing that is being discussed or described. E.g. The boy is writing a letter.

subject- the person or thing that is being discussed or described.

rebv - a word that expresses an action, an occurrence or state of being. E.g. The boy is writing a letter.

verb- a word that expresses an action, an occurrence or state of being.

jebcot - a person or thing that receives the action of the verb. E.g. The boy is writing a letter.

object- a person or thing that receives the action of the verb.

spat cipleparti - the form of a verb, typically ending in –ed, which used in forming perfect and passive tenses. E.g. write wrote written

past participle- the form of a verb, typically ending in –ed, which used in forming perfect and passive tenses.

Active and Passive Voice

voice- is the form a verb takes to indicate whether the subject of the verb performs or receives the action.

Active Voice * The subject performs the action of the verb. Passive Voice * The object performs the action of the verb.

Active Voice * The subject performs the action of the verb. Passive Voice * The object performs the action of the verb.

The passive voice requires a "double verb". (to be verb + past participle of another verb) “to be” verbs am, is, are, was, were, be, being, been

Active: Jose Rizal wrote Noli Me Tangere and El Filibusterismo . Passive: Noli Me Tangere and El Filibusterismo was written by Jose Rizal. ( Was is a form of the verb “be”.)

Pair Activity: You will be given 2 minutes to accomplish this activity. Change the voice of the sentences, from Active to Passive and Passive to Active .
