Adding ‘ly’ to words
‘ly’ is a suffix- added to the ends of
words.

The adjective (describing
word) becomes an adverb
(tells you more about the verb)
e.g.
The tortoise walked very
slowly.
Most adjectives add ‘ly’ to
make an adverb.
If the adjective ends in ‘y’ change the ‘y’
to ‘I’ before adding ‘ly’
Examples.
Secret + ly = secretly
Sleepy + ly = sleepily.
