AS 17 Segment Reporting

MEANING 4 Segment reporting breaks down the operating of a company into manageable pieces or segments Example : TOTAL ASSETS = LIABLITIES + SHER HOLDERS EQUITY

OBJECTIVE 5 The objective of this Standard is to establish principles for reporting financial information, about the different types of products and services an enterprise produces and the different geographical areas in which it operates. Such information helps users of financial statements: ▶️ better understand the performance of the enterprise; ▶️ better assess the risks and returns of the enterprise; and ▶️ make more informed judgements about the enterprise as a whole.

KEY DEFINITION 6 BUSINESS SEGMENT GEOGRAPHICAL SEGMENT REPORTABLE SEGMENT SEGMENT REVENUE SEGMENT EXPENSES SEGMENT RESULT

Disclosures 7 Disclosures of Segment reporting The entity’s reportable segments are its business and geographical segments for which a majority of their revenue is earned from sales to external customers and for which: [IAS 14.35]

revenue from sales to external customers and from transactions with other segments is 10% or more of the total revenue, external and internal, of all segments; or segment result, whether profit or loss, is 10% or more the combined result of all segments in profit or the combined result of all segments in loss, whichever is greater in absolute amount; or assets are 10% or more of the total assets of all segments.

CONCLUSION 8 Through segment reporting, businesses can identify their strengths and weaknesses in each segment, evaluate the performance of different segments, and make informed decisions on resource allocation and growth strategies.
