of joy, celebrates
the nativity of
Jesus, which
includes the
feast of the Holy
family, feast of
the mother of
God and
Epiphany.

Lent
•a time to
contemplate
deeply on
Christs’ passion
& death.
•A time to
contemplate
deeply on
Christs’ death.

Easter- a principal
Christian feast
day celebrates
the resurrection
of Jesus, which
also include the
resurrection,
ascension and
Pentecost
experiences

Ist candle- Represents the
first week of Advent . Its
color is purple to symbolize
our disposition. The first
candle represents the
Prophets who foretold the
coming of Messiah. It is
also called Prophecy
Candle or Candle of Hope.
That brings hope to those
who are waiting for Jesus.

candle-Represents the
second week of ADVENT.The
progressive lighting of the
candles represents our
eagerness to welcome
Jesus. It represents the
manger where Jesus laid
after birth. It is also called
Bethlehem Candle or candle
of Preparation that brings
love and consolation to all
those who yearn for Jesus

Candle ( PINK)- is lit on
third Sunday Called “
Gaudete Sunday” it is a
Sunday of Rejoicing
because our preparation is
half over & we are close to
Christmas . It is also called
the “Shepherd Candle or
the Candle of Joy” that
brings joy to those who
want to see Jesus.

candle- ( Purple) Stands
for the last week of
Advent. It is also called
“Angels Candle or Candle
of Love” that brings
peace to all people of
goodwill.

5th
candle- Represents
CHRISTMAS- The Birth of
Jesus. The color “
White” represents the
purity of Jesus who
brings light into the
world. Also called “
Christ Candle” that
brings the presence of
Christ to all People

Different liturgical
colors:
1. White- the color
of joy and victory,
is used for easter
& christmas. It is
also used for the
feast of Our Lord,
Mary, the angels
and Saints who
are not martyrs.

2. Red ( Color of Fire)
It is used for the
birthday feasts of
the apostles &
evangelist & for the
celebration of the
martyrs. Recalls the
Holy Spirit & is used
on pentecost
sundays & the
sacrament of
confirmation.

3. Green- seen
everywhere In
plants and
tress ,
symbolizes life
and hope and is
used during
ordinary time

4. Violet- a symbol
of penance and
renewal
Used during
Advent and
Lenten seasons.

5. Rose or Pink- used
on the third
Sunday of Advent (
Gaudete Sunday)
and on the fourth
Sunday of Lent
( Laetare Sunday) . It
express the joy of
anticipation for
Christmas &
Easter.
