Aerospace Engineering
The main area of engineering that deals with the creation of aircraft and spacecraft is aerospace engineering. Aeronautical engineering and astronautical engineering are its two main, overlapping fields. Similar in nature, avionics engineering focuses on the electronics aspect of aeronautical engineering.
The field's original name was "aeronautical engineering". With advancements in flight technology, the term "aerospace engineering" has gained wider usage to refer to vehicles operating in space. It is common to refer to aerospace engineering, especially the astronautics branch, as "rocket science" in popular language.
Flight vehicles are exposed to harsh environments, such as variations in temperature and atmospheric pressure, which place structural loads on the vehicle's components. As a result, they typically represent the culmination of numerous technological and engineering specialties, such as manufacturing, aerodynamics, air propulsion, avionics, materials science, and structural analysis. Aerospace engineering is the study of how these technologies interact. Due of the intricacy and multiplicity of disciplines involved, teams of engineers, each with a particular field of knowledge, carry out aeronautical engineering.
