AFC SYSTEM OVERVIEW

WHAT IS AFC SYSTEM?
Automatic Fare Collection System
System meant for automated
collection/computation of fare
Based on contact less technology
System consists of Semiautomatic
ticket vending machines, Automatic
entry-exit gates, Station server and
central server.

What AFC system does:
access control
ticket reading/writing
transaction collection and reports
stock management
Equipment supervision

AFC SYSTEM ARCHITECTURE

CENTRAL SYSTEM

Communicate with all Station Computers (SC) to collect
the details of the CSC and CST usage, accounting,
operational and auditing data
Store the transaction and audit data in order to assume
the central functions based on collected transactions
Maintain and distribute the DMRC equipment operating
data (EOD) which includes system parameters, fare table
and program to the equipment via the SC
Transmit to the equipment the Keys defined on the CC
Perform equipment administration

CC FUNCTIONS

Perform daily and monthly data backup
and housekeeping functions
Provide Master clock for clock
synchronization
Provide card history
Backup, archive and restore
Provide alarms to signal the operator of
the occurrence of any fault

Central Components
1.Data Center (DC)
composed of 2 servers clustered in order to provide
backup for each other
store data sent by station's computers
 configure the entire AFC system
transmit operating parameters, blacklist, and agent list
to the AFC equipment via the station's computers
provides facilities for entire AFC system supervision
give detailed analysis of passenger traffic, transaction
history for any specific CSC

2.Middle Ware Server
(MS)
relay the MCS master clock
system and broadcast the
time synchronization via
NTP over the LAN
Run BOM to generate
AFC business reports
3.Archiving Server (AS)
archive the data using
AfcServe Archive Software
in order to save on a DLT
tape partial or global data
from the central system
4.Administration
Console & Certificate
Authority (AC&CA)
Central Administration
functions are done on
AC&CA console via the
Microsoft Management
Console (MMC)
manage Security Access
Modules (for the DSM

5.Network
Management Console
(NMC)
manage the Central
LAN active network
Equipment and the
LAN Station's active
network equipment
via the WAN
Use HP-open view
Network Node
Manager
6.Locals Workstations
(LW)
5 LWs are located within
central environment
associated with one report
printer and communicate
with DC via LAN
Operator's workstations for
application’s man machine
interface such as fare
configuration, financial and
statistic reporting functions
that are elaborated from DC
data in DBMS

7.Production Server (PS)
ensures the data exchanges between DC and Bulk
Initialization machines (BIM)
Acts as a Station Computer for a production center
Transmit the operating parameters to BIM
Collate production shift transaction data from BIM for
transmission to the DC
These central subsystems are interconnected within the
central DMRC Headquarter building on a redundant
Local Area Network (LAN).The central computer is able
to communicate with the Stations Computers (SC via
the DMRC communication Wide Area Network
(WAN).

Station Components
Station Computer (SC)
•collate ticket usage transactions and update Audit
registers from AFC station equipment for transmission to
the Central Computer
•Maintain a local database of equipment activity to enable
local reports to be compiled.
•Distribution to the CC of the ticket transactions, audit
registers and events/alarm data
•Manage incidents (status and alarm monitoring) and
maintenance operations
•AFC equipment supervision
•Receive configuration and operating data from the Central
Computer distribute these to the AFC station equipment
•Stock Management

Report and Log Printer (RP)
•To take print for AFC business
reports,Stock reports and alarm logs.
Portable Ticket Decoder
Communication Unit (PTDCU)
•To recharge PTD and communicate to
SC via USB link.

How AFC works?
Passenger comes in free area to
purchase ticket for desired station
Token issued with Zone, date,time,
tom no. and station ID marked on it
One ticket for RJCK
please
Here is
your
token

TOKEN ISSUED

Shows his token at Gate SMV on free
area
SMV reads the token and writes
Entry date,time, equipment id and
station id on token

TOKEN AFTER ENTRY

Upon reaching destination station
passenger shows his token to Gate
SMA on paid area
Token is read and if found valid I.e.
for time and Zone allows exit by
accepting the token and opening flap
Otherwise display error message

Ticket Office Machine (TOM)
•Transport ticket delivery to the passengers.
•The machine is a standard Personal Computer, connected
to different appropriated peripherals
•Ticket sale
•Ticket reloading (or add-value)
•Ticket consultation, ticket data analysis and solving of
conflicts and errors,
•Ticket refund
•Ticket cancel
•Replacement of damaged cards
