3. INTRODUCTION 3 An agent is anything that can be viewed as perceiving its environment through sensors and acting upon that environment through actuators. An agent runs in the cycle of perceiving, thinking, and acting. The agent receives the information from the environment from sensors and store and process the information in the agent program, do the actions by using the effectors.

4. SENSORS : Sensor is a device which detects the change in the environment and Sends the information to other electronic devices. Sensors can be camera, infrared rays devices, keyboard, eye, ear etc. EFFECTORS : Effectors are the devices which affect the environment. Effectors can be legs, wheels, arms, fingers, wings. ACTUATORS : Actuators are the component of machines that converts energy into motion. An actuator can be an electronic motor, gears, rails etc. TERMS OF AGENTS

5. Percept(Sense) : It is the agent perceptual data at the present instance. Example: The automated AC detects the temperature at 10 o clock. Percept Sequence : It is the history of all the percept the agent receives till now. Example: The automated AC can store the temperature it sends till now. Agent Function : An agent function is a map from the percept sequence (history of all that an Agent has perceived till date) to an action. TERMINOLOGIES RELATED TO AGENTS

6. Agent program : It is an implementation of agent function. Performance of the agent : It is the criteria used to determine how the agent is successful in its action Example: If it is self driving car is analysed by the time it takes to reach its destination. Behavior of agent : It is the action that agent performs after any given sequence of percept Example: For the self driving car if the car applies break properly if any vehicle comes in front of it suddenly then we will say it is acting correctly to the received actions. 6

7. STRUCTURE OF THE AGENT An intelligent agent is a combination of agent program and architecture, Intelligent Agent =Agent Program + Architecture Architecture is a machine in which the agent runs. The agent program is an implementation of an agent function. Example: Washing machine is an Al agent it consists of two things, The agent program is a programming chip the machine contains. The architecture is the washing machines hardware parts or washing machine itself. 7
