EXECUTIVE SUMMARY
The "Agri Palalay Mobile Application" is a technology designed to provide farmers with information and guidance on rice cultivation procedures. The study identifies issues in the Municipality of Calinog, particularly in the development of rice crops. The main problem is low rice yield due to lack of knowledge, technical know-how, and resources. The Agri Palalay Mobile Application was developed using the System Development Life Cycle (RAD) approach, focusing on cutover, construction, user design, and system requirements planning. The researchers recommend the application for the Municipal Agriculture Office of Calinog, providing guidance on all aspects of rice farming, including planting seeds, preparing land, and harvesting.
• Aims to provide farmers with information and guidance on rice cultivation procedures. • Addresses issues in the Municipality of Calinog, particularly in the development of rice crops. • Key issues include low yield due to lack of knowledge and technical know-how, lack of new farmers, shortage of agronomic technicians, and lack of resources. • Aims to improve rice production through the use of the Agri Palalay mobile application. • Developed using the System Development Life Cycle (RAD) approach, including cutover, construction, user design, and system requirements planning. • Advises the Department of Agriculture's Municipal Agriculture Office of Calinog to implement the application.
The "Agri Palalay Mobile Application" technology seeks to give farmers access to information and direction on appropriate rice cultivating procedures. This study identified the issues facing the Municipality of Calinog, with a particular emphasis on the development of rice crops in the agricultural sector. The main issue that has been found is the low yield of rice crops, which is mostly the result of a lack of knowledge and technical know-how.
This system, “Agri Palalay Mobile Application,” aims to provide information on proper rice farming sequences, ensuring that farmers have access to the knowledge and guidance. This study determined the problem that existed in the Municipality of Calinog focusing on the agricultural sector, specifically rice crop production. The overarching problem identified is the low yield of rice crops, primarily attributed to a lack of information and technical expertise.
Specific challenges identified encompass a lack of knowledge among novice farmers, a scarcity of Agricultural Technicians, and a deficiency in accessible resources or Information, Education, and Communication (IEC) materials, hindering their ability to implement optimal agricultural practices. The Agri Palalay Mobile Application has been developed with the overarching goal of enhancing rice production in mind. The general objective is to increase rice production through the use of this Agri Palalay Mobile Application.
Particular issues that have been noted include the lack of knowledge of new farmers, the shortage of agronomic technicians, and the absence of readily available resources or information, education, and communication (IEC) materials, which impedes their capacity to apply the best agricultural techniques. Improving rice production is the main objective behind the creation of the Agri Palalay mobile application. Increasing rice production through the usage of the Agri Palalay mobile application is the main goal.
The System Development Life Cycle RAD (Rapid Application development) model was the method employed in the development of the Agri Palalay Mobile Application. It is composed of the system requirements planning, user design, construction and cutover.
The Agri Palalay Mobile Application was developed using the System Development Life Cycle (RAD) (Rapid Application Development) approach. It is made up of cutover, construction, user design, and system requirements planning.
The researchers strongly recommend to the Department of Agriculture, Municipal Agriculture Office of Calinog the implementation of the proposed system entitled,” Agri Palalay Mobile Application”, they can use this application to have a guide on rice farming activities from seed-bed, land preparation to harvesting which can help local beginner farmers. This application can be used in offline mode.
The researchers highly advise the Department of Agriculture's Municipal Agriculture Office of Calinog to put the "Agri Palalay Mobile Application" into practice. With this application, local beginning farmers can utilize a guide on all aspects of rice farming, from planting seeds to preparing land to harvesting. There is an offline mode for this application.
BACKGROUND OF THE STUDY
• Rice is the primary food crop in the Philippines, with 80% of the population consuming it. • The country ranks 8th globally in rice production, contributing 2.8% to global rice production. • In 2010, palay accounted for 21.86% of gross value added in agriculture and 2.37% of GNP. • Rice farming in the Philippines faces challenges due to lack of information on proper rice management. • Farmers lose an estimated 37% of their rice crop to pests and diseases annually. • Controlling these pathogens is challenging due to their changing populations and evolution. • In Calinog municipality, farmers are seeking ways to improve their farming practices and access new technologies and resources. • A system has been developed to guide rice farming in Calinog, providing basic information about proper farming practices. • The local government provides technical assistance, training programs, and agricultural inputs to farmers. • The "Agri- Palalay Mobile Application" is introduced to guide farmers in the proper application of farm inputs and other terms in crop production.
The Philippines, the eighth largest rice producer globally, relies heavily on rice for its staple food, 80% of its population. Despite its growth, the country faces challenges in proper rice management, with small farmers losing 37% of their harvests to pests and diseases. However, timely management and rapid processing can maintain rice quality. ( Drillon and Goldberg, 2012)
The local government provides technical aid, training, and resources to rice producers. The "Agri- Palalay Mobile Application" was created to assist local farmers, particularly novices, in increasing rice production. This program walks users through every phase of rice growing, from seeding to harvesting, including the use of farm inputs. Its goal is to close the information gap and improve production and sustainability in rice growing in Calinog.
Statement of the Problem and Objective of the Study
STATEMENT OF THE PROBLEM OBJECTIVE OF THE STUDY General: Low rice crop production due to limited information and technical expertise to assist farmers General: To increase rice production through the use of mobile application that will guide farmer in rice production. Specific: Some local beginner rice farmers have limited knowledge of proper rice farming activities. Limited number of Agricultural Technicians to guide rice farmers. Limited available resources or IEC materials about rice farming. Specific: To provide substantial information on rice farming activities through a mobile application To augment a learning guide through an e-guide.

FINDINGS
Observations, interviews, and analysis of the current system analysis revealed significant challenges for both Rice Farmers and Agricultural Technicians. Farmers encountered difficulties during farming activities, and technicians grappled with the varied issues in different rice crops across barangays. The Agri Palalay Mobile Application emerged as a solution, offering a user-friendly platform that aims to ease the challenges faced by both stakeholders.
