AIR POLLUTION

CONTENTS 01.Air Pollution 02 .Air pollution effect :- - Health aspect - Environment aspect - Economical aspect 03. Prevention and Control of air pollution

Definition of Air pollution:- The term air Pollution signifies the presence of toxic substances in the Surrounding atmosphere generated by the man made activities that affect the human the human health, safety, comfort, injures to the vegetation, animals and other Environmental media . According to WHO :- Air pollution is contamination of the indoor or outdoor environment by any chemical, physical or biological agent that modifies the natural characteristics of the atmosphere. Air Pollution:-

01. Primary Air pollutants 02. Secondary Air pollutants 03.Gaseous air pollutants 04. Particulate air pollutants Pollutants :-

1952 : London . Killer fog . Primary Source – Domestic Coal burning . 4,500 excess deaths recorded during week- long period in December The Great London Smog (1952)

1.)Carbon Monoxide

2.) Sulphur Dioxide

3.) Nitrogen Dioxide

4.) Particulate Matter

5.) Ground Level Ozone Major Pollutant :-

Natural Sources :- -smoke that comes from wildfires -volcanoes Human Sources :- - power plants - automobiles - fumes - burning wood stoves - fireplaces - furnaces Source of Air Pollution:-

Air pollution is a significant risk factor for multiple health condition like respiratory infection, heart disease and lungs cancer . It principally affect the respiratory system and cardiovascular system that leads to difficulty in breathing , wheezing, coughing , asthama and premature death ☠️ According to WHO state that 2.4 million people die each year from directly attribute to air pollution . Health effects:-

Poisonous air pollutants can form acid rain. It also destroy the ozone layer Which protect us from ultra violet radiation . These destroy tree,Crops , animal and ultimately it make the water pollution that harmful to human and animals who live in water and depend on water . On Social or Environment aspect:-

Acid Rain ☔

Acid rain destroy the historical monuments In India most of the people depend upon the business of cultivated raw material and natural resources . Air pollution reduces agricultural crop Economic Effect:-

There is no practical invention we can make to Clean air pollution . The WHO recommended the following procedure for the prevention and control of air pollution . PREVENTION AND CONTROL OF AIR POLLUTION:-

It is prevention of escape of toxic materials into ambient air. It is achieved by variety of engineering method such as - Exhaust fan - Ventilation - Air cleaning device - Enclosure - Arrester Containment :-

Pollution producing substances and process are replaced with non-polluting substances by technical process For Example - Use of non- leaded petrol instead of leaded petrol - Use of solar cooker - Gobar gas / Natural gas instead of wood , coal for cooking 2. Replacement Method:-

I t is self cleaning capacity of environment. Growing vegetation and plants between industrial and residential areas help in the reduction of air pollution , these are called green belts . 3. Dilution:-

Air pollution is controlled in many countries by suitable legislation e.g Clean Air acts ; Govt. of India enacted , The Air ( Prevention and control of pollution ) Act in 1981 . 4. Legislation:-

To deal with air pollution on world wide scale, the WHO has established an international network of laboratories for the monitoring and study of air pollution. 1. Two international centers at London & Washington
2. Three centres at Moscow, Nagpur & Tokyo
3. 20 laboratories in various parts 5. International action :-
