Notable Hispanic Cisneros

Slide Content

Evelyn Cisneros Patrick Albrant 4 th hour

Evelyn Cisneros was very shy as a child, until age 7 when her mother introduced her to ballet. Her and her mother set up a deal, that if she didn’t like ballet class by the end of a year, she could quit. She quickly fell in love with ballet, and was naturally good at it. What makes her interesting?

Evelyn’s dedication to ballet was very admirable. She would skip lunch and leave school early so she could go to ballet class in San Francisco, over an hour and a half away. How is she admirable?

How did she make the world a better place? She helped other Hispanic people with AIDS when she joined the board of Project Open Hand by sending them food. The former director of Project Open Hand told the San Francisco Chronicle , "When she delivered food, it went beyond nutrition. She radiated joy and brought a smile to people's faces."

What makes her a good role model? She started ballet at age 7, and quickly became San Francisco Ballet’s favorite dancer. her ballet teacher said, 'I've been searching for 35 years, and I have finally gotten my ballerina.‘ She was 9 years old. She was very determined to become a ballerina.

What will the world remember about her? She was a fantastic dancer, and she inspired many young people to start dancing. She also helped many people through their hard times.

How has she added to the growth and wellbeing of others? She was always in a good mood when she was dancing. "Evelyn has such a warm, beautiful smile," her director told the San Francisco Chronicle . "You can't help but notice her right away, the moment she comes onstage. She has real charisma, a real gift not many people have."

How has she opened my mind to respecting and appreciating the various cultures of the world? She has made me realize how people from all over the world have special talents, everybody is really good at something in their life.

How was she influenced? Michael Smuin , her first dance instructor at San Francisco Ballet, influenced her most. He took her under his wing and became her teacher "Michael made me what I am," Cisneros told the San Francisco Chronicle in 1999.

What can I reflect in my life? I was also very shy when I was younger, until my parents introduced me to a lot of different sports. Introducing me to sports and other kids on the teams really helped me break my shyness.

What have I learned? I have learned that if you put your mind to something important to you, nothing can ever stop you. If you really believe you can do something, then you can do it. No matter what it is, never give up.
