An Introduction to the Culture and Tradition
of the Philippines through Dances
Alitaptap
Alitaptap is originated from the province of Batangas. The dance
attire for girls are colorful balintawak and patadyong skirts, for the
boys are camisa de chino and colored trousers (Alitaptap costume).
This dances is to celebrate victories, festivals, religious rituals, and
thanksgiving.
This dance mimics the movement of a firefly, in a ¾ time signature
music, composed of A and B. Most provinces in the Philippines have
their own identifying folk dances wherein they showcase the elegance
and beauty of the way they do things, the way they dress, the way they
see things as shown in different paintings, as they have been influenced
by various events as that happened in history.
