2. Area and Population Malabon , officially the City of Malabon is one of the cities and municipalities that make up Metro Manila in the Philippines. According to the 2015 census, it has a population of 365,525 . Located just north of Manila, it is primarily a residential and industrial town and is one of the most densely populated cities in the metropolis. It has a total land area of 15.96 square kilometres.

3. Malabon is part of the sub-region of Metro Manila informally called CAMANAVA, which consists of CAloocan , MAlabon , NAvotas , and VAlenzuela cities. Caloocan lies to the south and east, Navotas to the west, and Valenzuela to the north. Malabon also borders the town of Obando in the province of B ulacan to the northwest.

Maysilo bestowed upon him the honor of beinig their Outstanding Bgy . Captain in 1989. And the, the KAMANAVA Press Corps. Recognized him as 1994 Outstanding Barangay Captain in the North Sector of Metropolitan Manila.

20. History of Malabon Malabon , per legend, came from the words maraming labong which means "plenty of labong ", the edible bamboo shoots. Originally called the town of Tambobong , Malabon was founded as a “ Visita ” of Tondo by the Augustinian friars on May 21, 1599 and remained under the administrative jurisdiction of the province of Tondo from 1627 to 1688.

21. Malabon played an important economic role in the late 19th century as evidenced by the establishment of the La Princesa Tabacalera in 1851 and the Malabon Sugar Company in 1878.

22. La Princesa was under the corporate umbrella of Compañía General de Tabacos de Filipinas which was owned by the King of Spain, while the latter pioneered the refined sugar industry in the Philippines.

23. Malabon was officially made a municipality of the newly created province of Rizal on June 11, 1901 by virtue of Philippine Commission Act No. 137. When Act No. 942 was promulgated, Malabon was merged with Navotas under a new government.

24. On January 16, 1906, Act No. 1441 separated Malabon from Navotas into two distinct municipalities of the Rizal province.

25. For 70 years, Malabon was a municipality of Rizal, until November 7, 1975, by virtue of Presidential Decree No. 824, when Malabon became a part of Metropolitan Manila or the National Capital Region. Malabon became a city on April 21, 2001, under Republic Act No. 9019 when Malabon was 407 years old.

26. Festival in Malabon : Lugluagan Sa Malabon Festival This was held every 10th of December to commemorate the religious celebration in honor of the patroness of Malabon - Our Lady of Immaculate Conception.

Year 2009, Luglugan Festival was recognized as the Best Tourism Event for food category of the Association of Tourism Officers of the Philippines (ATOP) And of course, the highlight of the event is the giant Pancit Bilao measuring 15 feet in diameter, divided into 4 triangular trays, with almost 90 kilos of noodles.

28. Four different Pancit -makers in Malabon were given each tray to fill in. The four triangles was prepared by the famous of Pancit Malabon makers, namely, Nanay's ; Rosy's ; Zeny ' ; Roy's.Considered as one of its kind culinary festival in Metro Manila

29. Highlight of the event other than street dancing, and marching band exhibition is the presentation of the Giant Bilaos of Pancit Malabon . They provided 7000 paper plates for distribution but others were very ready and brought their own plastic bags and bowls, approximately 8000 people were fed.

39. Highlights of accomplishments Based on the Y2013 National Household Targeting System for Poverty Reduction conducted by the Department of Social Welfare and Development, there are 21,563 households in Malabon City identified as poor. This is about 26.12% of Malabon City’s 82,546 total number of households.

40. Thus, interventions were made to reduce poverty incidence in the locality and improve on the social services delivered to the people.

41. EDUCATION Through the Alternative Learning System (ALS), out of school youths and those who do not have access or cannot go to formal education , were given the option to acquire informal education, which they could use to be integrated into formal tertiary education.

42. In the year 2015, there were 1,271 graduates from Alternative Learning System (ALS); 88 in the elementary level and 1,183 in secondary level .

43. To equip learners with 21st century skills including information, media and technology skills under the Kto12 Enhanced Basic Education Program, the “ Oreta Technolab ” was launched in September of 2015

44. A total of 666 sets of study book tablet, 8 sets of desktop, 38 sets of printer/scanner, 38 units LCD overhead projector, 76 units LED tv , and 760 clerical chairs were distributed to public schools and division office for the establishment of computer laboratories

45. Through the “BOOKMOBILE OPERATONS “BOOKS AND COMPUTERS ON WHEELS”, the City Library, in coordination with the DepEd Division of Schools visited the 25 out of 28 public elementary schools in the locality last October to December 2015 and offered library services which included reading sessions, storytelling, and computer tutorials.

46. HEALTH AND WELLNESS The City Government of Malabon has total manpower resources of one hundred ninety seven (197) in the year 2015 which includes 26 physicians, 20 dentists, 6 sanitation personnel, 34 nurses, 38 midwives, 10 laboratory aid, 16 dental aides and 47 others manning the public hospital and twenty one (21) health centers.

47. There are also twenty (20) Barangay Nutrition Scholars (BNS) and one hundred fifty seven (157) Barangay Health Workers (BHWs) as support personnel in promoting health care in the locality.

Dental care Records of the City Health Department shows that 5% or 2,391 of children aged 12 to 71 mos. are considered to be Orally Fit Children, while 22% or 10,966 are provided with Basic Oral Health Care (BOHC). There were also 3,969 pregnant women and 3,234 older persons aged 60 years old and above provided with BOHC.

51. From October to December, the City Government implemented the “Oral Health Mo, Love na Love Ko , Ngipin Mo, Aalagaan Ko ”, Sealant Application Program to Grade 1 pupils of Malabon public schools.

52. Solid waste management The City Environmental and Natural Resources Office (CENRO) conducted series of lectures in schools with the theme “ Pamahalaan at Eskwela Para sa Kalikasan ”, with a total one thousand five hundred thirteen (1,513) students (wherein 573 are males and 940 are females).

53. There were also eight hundred forty five (845) Child Development Center audiences (785 pupils; 59 teachers and assistants). Lectures were also given to Pantawid Pamilyang Pilipino Program (4Ps) beneficiaries during their Family Development Sessions (FDS) with 3,621 attendees.

54. The program of the City Government “May Kita sa Basura ” that was launched to encourage Malabonians to practice waste segregation and recycling had one hundred fifty two (152) participants (71 females and 81 males) resulting to a total collection of 14,923.10 kilograms of recyclables.

55. With the strict implementation of “Anti-Littering Ordinance” the Green Police apprehended two thousand six hundred four (2,604) violators wherein 2,295 are males and 309 are females. From the total apprehension, one thousand two hundred eighty five (1,285) are Malabonians and the remaining 1,319 are from other cities.

57. Malabon tricycle tours Since its launch in December 2014, Malabon Tricycle Tours is now gaining popularity. Different media entities/ tv programs like Kris TV, Umagang Kay Ganda, Unang Hirit , Travel Time, Kapuso Mo Jessica Soho , State of the Nation with Jessica Soho , 3 In 1 Karen Davilla , Goodnews with Vicky Morales, have featured Malabon Tricycle Tours

58. For the year 2015, a total of 943 tourists (Malabonians-148, Local-788 and Foreigners-7) were able to see the rich cultural heritage or tasted Malabon City’s delicacies through Malabon Tricycle Tours’ Heritage Tour and Food Trip.

59. GrandMa Malabon 2015… The City Lola Over the past years, Mutya ng Malabon has showcased the beauty, elegance and talent of youth Malabonians . But for the year 2015, the role of the elderly women in the community was recognized through the first GrandMa Malabon .

60. 21 City Lolas from the barangays competed and shared their beauty, talent and experiences. This beauty pagent highlighted the 416th Malabon Foundation Day celebration .

62. Halloween Folklore Decoration Contest cum Apocalypse Zombie Run The celebration of Halloween tradition in Malabon City was made special with the conduct of Halloween Folklore Decoration Contest. Organized by the Youth for Malabon Organization (Y4MO), with the supervision of their adviser Coun . Enzo Oreta and support from Mayor LenLen Oreta .

63. more than 50 local government offices and 21 barangays decorated their respective workplace using recycled materials. Malabon city hall designed as a halloween theme park caught the attention of different media entities and was featured in various tv shows like Unang Hirit of GMA7 and TV5

64. Malabonians and individuals from other cities had the chance to visit the decorations in October 28-29, 2015 and the children enjoyed the trick-or-treat. With the theme “ Mangkukulam / Mambabarang ”

65. Another halloween activity dubbed as “Run for Your Life, Apocalypse Zombie Run” was participated by youth Malabonians , city hall employees and officials in October 30, 2015.

66. More than 2,000 runners lead by Mayor LenLen wore their superhero costumes while running for their lives and avoiding the attacks of over 500 zombies.

69. Balsa sa Niugan Started in July 1998, Balsa sa Niugan is owned by Mr. Santy Geronimo, a native from Niugan , balsa has 350 seating capacity, a native inspired place with 43 workers. It has a total land area of 5,000 sq. meters, in both land and water. Balsa was originally a fishpond converted into a floating restaurant and a fishing garden.

71. Epifanio delos santos monument Generally regarded as the foremost scholar, Epifanio Delos Santos, a Malabon native, reaffirms what the Filipino can accomplish with his native genius and ability coupled with proper background and incentive.

73. Gregorio Gozon Sanciangco’s Historical Marker A native of Tonsuya , Malabon , Gregorio Gozon Sanciangco is a graduate of Bachelors Degree in Colegio San Juan de Letran and a Law graduate in University of Santo Tomas. In 1878, he left for Spain to enroll in the Universidad Central de Madrid.

74. He wrote “El Progreso De Filipinas” which advocated reforms in the political, administrative, agrarian, revenues, property, natural resources and urban development and taxation .

76. Old Spanish Houses Old Spanish houses are usually two-storey. The lower portion is made up of brick stones or adobe. The second floor is usually made up of wood. Roofed with red tiles and with Capiz -shells windows, and at its lower part are the ventanillas with an iron grill outside or wood balusters.

78. Asilo de Huerfanos The Asilo de Huerfanos de Tambobong Wall is made up of adobe and it is the only historical mark that was left after the fire that burned the second floor of the building during the war between Filipino-American. It is now the Philippine Tannery Incorporated.

79. The Asilo de Huerfanos was established for the victims of the war on 1882. For 2800 meters, it has a wide range of a laboratory, workshop, sewing room for the ladies, and publishing and binding room.

80. This is the place where the missionaries imprinted their works and the La Independencia , the bulletin of the revolutionary government. It was also where the orphans of the plague of 1882 were housed.

82. Don salvador araneta Don Salvador Zaragosa Araneta had one of the biggest contributions in the country most particularly in the field of agriculture. He was then the Secretary of Agriculture on 1954.

He was also the founder of FEATI University, Araneta University, now as the De La Salle - Araneta University, the Philippine Constitution of National Economic Protectionism Association and the White Cross, an orphanage. 85. San Bartolome Church-The cry of balintawak The original church was built on 1813-1861 and was made up of stone, tiza , tingga , tanso and molave , which is said to be the highest and the biggest church in the entire country with Manila Cathedral. The church was ravaged and floundered during the 1898 Revolution. Only one removable silver altar was recovered of the total six.

Malabon Zoo and Aquarium I t is a well kept and unique conservatory of both endemic and exotic animals, including a large variety of unusual fishes, stashed inside a one-hectare tropical rainforest environment. An amusing destination for the old and the young, it indulges its visitors with the distinct privilege to pet wild animals that normally avoid human contact.

90. This is a city where heirloom recipes of almost a hundred dishes and delicacies still flourish. And on top of that list are the two things Malabon is famous for: bilaos with colorful swirls of kakanin , maja blanca , ube and cassava cakes, and the quintessential Pancit Malabon .

Pancit malabon T hick rice noodles swathed in a bright and sunshiny yellow-orange sauce, a mixture of patis (fish sauce), achuete , shrimp juice or aligue (crab fat), and topped with an assortment of seafood that’s abundant in this area—shrimps, squid, mussels, oysters and tinapa (smoked fish) flakes. Of course, no bilao of Pancit Malabon is worthy of desire without the slivers of hard-boiled eggs that go on top, making this the most festive noodle dish in town . A photo of pancit Malabon :

92. Sapin sapin Sapin sapin is a Filipino rice cake made from glutinous rice and coconut milk. This delicious sapin sapin recipe is composed of layers each with a different color and flavor .

93. Normally, sapin-sapin is composed of 3 layers: the bottom layer is colored yellow and has the flavor of ripe jackfruit; the middle layer is white and has the flavor of young coconut or just plain coconut milk; the topmost layer is violet in color and has the flavor of purple yam.

95. Pichi-pichi Pichi-Pichi is a gelatinous dessert (this can also be eaten as a heavy mid-afternoon snack) made from grated cassava and sugar. The concoction is placed in a mold and steamed until a sticky-gelatinous texture is formed. After steaming, this is coated with grated coconut for additional flavor

97. Lumpiang hubad Lumpiang hubad , simply put, means the lumpia filling is served naked sans wrapper. It can be made with a myriad of vegetables, seafood and meat but I prefer carrots, singkamas (jicama), sweet potatoes, garbanzo beans, green beans and tofu in mine.

100. CRISPY PATA Crispy Pata is a famous Filipino pork dish that uses a whole pig’s leg. The leg (or pata ) is made tender by simmering in water along with other spices. It is then rubbed with seasonings and deep-fried until the texture becomes very crispy.

101. This dish can be eaten as a main dish along with pickled green papaya ( atchara ) and a dipping sauce made from soy sauce, vinegar, brown sugar, and chopped onions. It can also be served as beer food or “ pulutan ” – which is what Crispy Pata is popularly known for.
