Aluminium Windows & Doors

Types of Aluminium windows
Types of aluminium windows can be classified
according to the following-
Fixed light
Sliding Windows:
◼Horizontal Sliding & Vertical Sliding Windows
◼Two Track
◼Three Track
◼Four Track
Openable Windows:
◼Side Hung
◼Top Hung
◼Pivoted

Parts of windows

Sliding Window Material
These windows are constructed by using Aluminium
sections as the basic framing material.
These are designed Aluminium hollow sections of STD
sizes and shapes manufactured through the process
called as extrusion.
All the sections are available in market in their STD
lengths (i.e. 12 ft).
There are many simple & artistically designed sections.

Characteristics of aluminium windows/ doors
Light weight
Sleek appearance
Durable
Easy to install
Easy to maintain
Economical compared to wood
Modular

•uPVC Windows & Doors :
What is PVC & uPVC
PVC —Polyvinyl Chloride
uPVC —Unplasticized Polyvinyl Chloride

•Advantages of uPVC Doors :
1.It is strong, tough and resilient.
2.UPVC doors never rots, flakes, rusts, fades, pits, peels or corrodes.
It needs only a light soapy wash and a check of the seals for
maintenance. UPVC requires virtually no maintenance making it very
convenient and time-saving.
3.UPVC is pollution resistant, sea water resistant and chemical proof.
Wood can swell and rot and aluminium and steel can corrode and have
galvanic reaction to the fasteners.
4.Fire tests have shown that UPVC materials, being naturally flame
retardant throughout their product life, will not cause, support or
enhance the development of accidental fire and are in fact self-
extinguishing.
5.UPVC materials are good insulating materials due to which, it keeps
home warmer in winter and cooler houses in summer. UPVC prevents
thermal bridging so prevents condensation unlike aluminium.
6.When it comes to cost, UPVC doors are much cheaper than
aluminium and timber doors.
7.Anti crowbar means that they cannot be opened by intruders.

•Disadvantages of uPVC Doors :
•Less structural integrity
•UPVC doors are unsuitable to be used as the front door
as due to their light weight.
•They are not weather proof enough like wooden or
aluminium doors.
•It doesn't appear to be attractive due to its simple plastic
look. However they are available in wide range of colours.
•Due to lighter weights, water, breeze may infiltrate and
thus an enhanced, standardised detailing is required.
•Most guarantees last about 10 years so end just when
you need them.
