UNETHICAL ISSUES AT AMAZON Student’s Name Institution Affiliation Date

INTRODUCTION Amazon incorporation is a multinational corporation that is based at Seattle Washington Its main business activities include cloud computing and e- commerce. It was started by Jeff Bezos in 1994. In terms of revenue, Amazon is the largest company in the world

Warehouse Abuses Amazon compensate their employees 9% lower than the industry average. This instance of lower wage rate cut across various positions within the company. Although Amazon announced last year that trey will be increasing the salaries of their employees, there still exists various controversies. The employees are expected to produce and giver more within a short period of time .

Exploitation of temporary workers Amazon Incorporation has both permanent and temporary work force. The temporary workers are hired in peak seasons to help in the day to day activities at the firm. Amazon does not provide better wages or more security to these temporary workers. T hey are dismissed within a short period of time.

Delivery drivers & the gig economy Amazon employs its delivery drivers through a gig economy system known as Amazon Flex. I t can be used as a source of supplemental income. Amazon’s algorithms don’t properly compensate flex drivers for their work . Flex drivers claim blocks of time to deliver certain packages.

A toxic environment for white collar workers In meetings, employees a re expected to memorize print outs given to them a day or two before. Workers are encouraged to tear apart each others ideas in meetings and to send secret feedback to one another’s bosses . Workers are also culled annually . Employees returning after serious surgeries and miscarriages are put on performance improvement plans.

Ethical standards Ethical standards refers to the mutually agreed principles in the course of work. In Amazon, the ethical standards of the employees were violated to a great extent. At first, the temporary employees require better working environment as well as adjustable working schedules. They are also given very short time limits and minimal days to relax.

Influence of leadership in relation to behavior Jeff Bezos, the CEO of Amazon, is widely recognized for his high expectations on his workers. T he top officials of the company expects the employees to work more than usual. The leadership style at Amazon is very exploitive even though it has yielded the desired results. It is as a result of this behavior that most ethical issues are looked down upon .

Cultural, environmental and legal implications related to the behavior The customers’ loyalty depends on how the firm operates in the society. Unfair working conditions of these workers can result to low sales on part of the company. The law demands that the workers should be treated like other human beings. The management demands the employees to commit their energy exclusively to the firm for more hours than the agreed time.

Impact of the behavior on individuals, company and society The impact of unethical behavior to individuals is that they become less productive. The employees are the important part of the entire production process and they are the link between the company and its consumers. T he professionals will shy away from applying employment positions in the firm.

The outcome of the event L ooking down upon the welfare of its employees has led to decreased number of employee applicants. Most of the people fear to apply for positions with the notion that they will only be used to make profits for the company. The relationship between the consumers and the firm will also be ruined and thus their loyalty will decline .

Fairness of punishment This can be done through punishment to the firm T he employees can boycott their duties and demand that their priorities to be upheld. Another form of punishment for this unethical behavior is by suing the company in the court of law. The grievances of the employees should be brought before a judge and the decision made.

How organizational policies and procedures can be aligned to prevent future occurrences The policies in Amazon can be aligned in such a way that they involve their employees in decision making. The procedures in the firm should be flexible in order to accommodate future changes. Amazon should include every stakeholder in decision making.
