INTRODUCTION Before we start to identification or description of monas, does any of you guys know about our figure ? Its, our national monument known as Monas. Monas is one of the historical monuments in Indonesia. This monument is also a hallmark of the capital city of the Republic of Indonesia . 1
IDENTIFICATION The National Monument or also commonly abbreviated as Monas Jakarta is a monument that was erected to commemorate the persistence and struggle of the heroes of the Indonesian nation . Monas is located right in front of the presidential palace of the Republic of Indonesia. Monas towers majestically with a height of 132 meters. On the outside of the courtyard, there are embossed reliefs depicting all the struggles of the heroes of the era against the invaders . Its construction began on August 17, 1961 by order of President Soekarno and was inaugurated so that it was opened to the public on July 12, 1975 2
More Insight Information At each corner of the outer courtyard that surrounds the monument there are reliefs depicting the history of Indonesia . This relief begins in the northeast corner by perpetuating the glory of the archipelago in the past; showing the history of Singasari and Majapahit . This relief continues chronologically in a clockwise direction towards the southeast, southwest, and northwest corners . At the base of the monument at a depth of 3 meters below ground level, there is the National History Museum of Indonesia. The large space of the history museum of the national struggle with an area of 80 x 80 meters can accommodate about 500 visitors. This large marble-covered room has 48 dioramas on all four sides and 3 dioramas in the middle, bringing a total of 51 dioramas. Inside the monument cup there is an amphitheater-shaped Independence Room. This room can be reached via a spiral staircase from the north and south side doors. This room holds the symbol of the state and independence of the Republic of Indonesia . Among them are the original manuscripts of the Proclamation of Indonesian Independence which are stored in a glass box inside a gold-plated gate, the symbol of the state of Indonesia, a map of the archipelago of the Unitary State of the Republic of Indonesia with gold plated and a red and white flag 3
Inside Of Monas The last and most striking thing about this national monument is at its peak there is a chalice that supports the bronze lamp which weighs 14.5 tons and is plated with 35 Kilograms of gold. This flame or torch is 14 meters high and 6 meters in diameter and consists of 77 parts that are joined together. This tongue of fire is a symbol of the fighting spirit of the Indonesian people who want to achieve independence. The peak of this monument is also interpreted as "The fire that never goes out 4
