Introduction to Amphibians Amphibians are a class of vertebrates that includes frogs, toads, salamanders, etc. 2. The Ectothermic which means that they are cold-blooded. These types of animals have only two life stages Aquatic – Tadpole Land- fully grown adult. 4. Amphibians are known for their permeable skin, which allows for respiration and moisture absorption, but also makes them susceptible to environmental changes.
Life Cycle of Amphibians Amphibians lay eggs in water. The eggs are usually surrounded by a jelly-like substance for protection. The eggs hatch into larvae (tadpoles for frogs and toads). Larvae live in water, have gills for breathing, and feed on algae. Metamorphosis is the process or stage where amphibians go through rapid growth which makes them adult from larvae.
