WHAT IS ANEMIA? Defined as decrease in circulating red blood cell mass. Characterized by decrease of hemoglobin concentration ( Hb )/RBC count/hematocrit (PCV) below normal for patient’s age, sex & altitude of residence . Normal adult hemoglobin level is in the range of 13 to 17 g/ dL in males and 12 to 15 g/ dL in females.
