My understanding about this lyrics I think that Paul McCartney wrote this song inspired in the concept of integration of the black (ebony) and the white (ivory) races. This song contains a message of racial harmony. It is very simple and beautiful. It tell us that all the world’s people are equal, are the same; so we have to live in peace and give everybody respect and consideration.

It calls to the harmony between the people of the different races especially the black and the white. And the music, it is so melodious that invites to sing it and even dance it.
