ANATOMY AND PHYSIOLOGY Topic: What is anatomy and physiology? Levels of organization Human body organ systems Homeostasis Terms related to anaphy

What is ANATOMY? Anatomy describes the structure of the body – their scientific names, composition, location, and associated structures. It came from the Greek word “ ana ” means up and “ tome ” means a cutting . Simply means “ to cut apart/a cutting open ”. Traditionally, studies of anatomy have involved cutting up, or dissecting organism. However, numerous imaging techniques have been developed. They are being cut apart in order to observe their physical attributes and their relationships to one another.

Physiology studies the function of each structure, individually and in combination with other structure. the term “ physiology ,” from Ancient Greek, meaning “ study of nature, origins .” Human physiology is the scientific study of the chemistry and physics of the structures of the body and the ways in which they work together to support the functions of life . centers on the body’s tendency toward homeostasis ( Homeostasis  is the state of steady internal conditions maintained by living things). Physiologists study processes at different levels, from the big picture (like what different brain parts do) to tiny details (like how signals travel along nerves).

ANATOMY ft. PHYSIOLOGY Anatomy and physiology concern with the structures and functions of the human body. They always work together. As we examine each part of the body, always consider both its structure and its function.
