Introduction
Theeyeisaspecializedsenseorganthathelps

diameter&situatedintheorbitalcavity

Theeyeismadeupof
threecoats,orlayers,
enclosing various
anatomicalstructures.
Theoutermostlayer,
knownasthefibrous
tunic,iscomposedof
thecorneaandsclera,
whichprovideshapeto
theeyeandsupportthe
deeperstructures.

Themiddlelayer,
known as
thevasculartunic
oruvea,consists
of
thechoroid,cilia
ry body
pigmented
epithelium
andiris.

Theinnermost
istheretina,
whichgetsits
oxygenation
fromtheblood
vesselsofthe
choroid(posteri

the retinal
vessels
(anteriorly).

Layers:-
1.Sclera–white,outerlayeroftheeyeball;
tough,fibrousmembranethathelpsto
maintainthesphericalshapeoftheeyeball
2.Cornea–partofscleroticcoat;
transparent,frontpartofeyeballthrough
whichlightwavespass,nobloodvesselsbut
lotsofnerveendings

3.Choroidlayer–middlelayeroftheeye;supplies
bloodvesselstotheeyeandcontainsdarkpigment
granulesthatpreventthereflectionoflightinthe
eye.
4.Ciliarybody–intrinsicmuscle;smoothmuscle
fiberssupport&modifylensshape
5.Iris–coloredportionofeyeformedbycircularly
andradiallyarrangedsmoothmusclefibers;

6.Pupil–roundedopeningoftheiristhrough
whichlightpasses
7.Retina–innermostlayeroftheeye;linesits
surfaceandcontainsphotoreceptors(cells
responsibleforconvertinglightintonerve
impulses–rods&cones)
8.Lens–flexible,biconvex,crystal-likestructure
thatbringsraysoflightintofocusandproduces

Suspensory
ligament –
holds the lens
in place;
attached to the
ciliary body,
which controls
the amount of
tension
exerted on the
lens

substance that
