Anatomy of the external acoustic meatus

Anatomy of the external acoustic meatus Lateral One-Third (Cartilaginous Portion):Composed of fibrocartilage, continuous with the auricle. Contains fissures of Santorini, small defects that can allow the spread of infection or malignancy. Medial Two-Thirds (Bony Portion): Bounded by the tympanic and squamous parts of the temporal bone. Lined with skin directly attached to the periosteum, with no subcutaneous tissue. May have a small defect called the foramen of Huschke, connecting to the temporomandibular joint. The isthmus, the canal's narrowest point, is located at the junction of the cartilaginous and bony sections.
