Day 1: SKELETAL SYSTEM

What is the song all about? Do these bones give shape to the body? Let’s find out!

Vocabulary Words Skeleton - is the framework that provides structure to the rest of the body and facilitates movement. Support - a thing that bears the weight of something.

Vocabulary Words Protect - to cover or shield from exposure, injury, or damage. Framework - a basic structure, plan, or system.

Using simple language, name the parts of the skeletal system.

SKELETAL SYSTEM is considered as the framework of the human body The adult human skeleton is made up of 206 bones. Femur is the longest bone in the human body.

Cartilage Cartilage is a strong, flexible connective tissue that protects your joints and bones. It acts as a shock absorber throughout your body.

Joints A joint is any place in your body where two bones meet. They’re part of your skeletal system. You might see joints referred to as articulations.

You have hundreds of joints throughout your body, and many ways healthcare providers group them together (classification). Joints are usually classified based on: Their function:  How they move. Their composition:  What they’re made of (histologically).

Ligament Ligaments are bands of tissue that help connect bones, joints and organs and hold them in place.

The human body has more than 900 ligaments that help connect bones, joints and organs and hold them in place. A ligament can be overstretched or torn, called a sprain. Sprains are a common injury, but you can take several steps to keep your ligaments healthier and safer.

Tendons A tendon is a cord of strong, flexible tissue, similar to a rope. Tendons connect your muscles to your bones. Tendons let us move our limbs. They also help prevent muscle injury by absorbing some of the impact your muscles take when you run, jump or do other movements .

Tendons link your muscles to your bones. They let your bones move as your muscles tighten and relax. Overuse, injury, aging and health conditions, such as arthritis, can damage your tendons. You can lessen the chances of tendon problems with a balanced exercise routine.

Skull The skull is composed of bones and cartilage that work together to surround and protect the brain and some sense organs. The upper jaw, but not the lower, is part of the skull. The human cranium—the part that contains the brain—is globular and relatively large in comparison with the face.

Rib cage Rib cage is the name for the group of 12 pairs of ribs that protect the organs in your chest and help you breathe. Ribs 1 through 7 are called true ribs because they connect directly to the sternum.

Spine or Backbone The spine, or backbone, is a bony structure that supports your body. It connects different parts of your musculoskeletal system, which includes your body’s bones and muscles. Your spine helps you sit, stand, walk, twist and bend. Spinal Cord is the organ that is protected by the vertebral column.

What are the importance of the skeletal system in everyday activities, such as walking, running, or lifting objects? How the skeletal system is important in supporting the muscular system to perform physical activities? What are the different ways on how to take care the skeletal system?

Just like the framework of our houses, our bones create a framework that supports our body. They help us stand, walk, and do things like climbing coconut trees to harvest coconuts, making sure we do not fall over.

Muscular System Day 2 :

Review One volunteer to go in front to be a model. Identify the different bones on the body of the volunteer.

Kindly share instances when you use your muscles to accomplish something impressive, like lifting a heavy object running a long distance, performing dance movements or simple gymnastics.

Our muscular system can help us improve our physical abilities, posture, strength, and health.

Vocabulary muscles – a body tissue consisting of long cells that can contract and produce motion movement – an act of changing physical location or position or of having this changed. posture – the position in which someone holds their body when standing or sitting.

Vocabulary strength – the quality or state of being physically strong. flexibility – the ability to change or be changed easily according to the situation voluntary – done, given, or acting of one's own free will.

Three Kinds of Muscles   Skeletal Muscles are voluntary muscles because some of these muscles can be consciously controlled. They are also called striated muscles because their cells look that way. These muscles move (contract or pull) when they are stimulated by a nerve.

Smooth Muscles are involuntary muscles a person cannot consciously control them. They can be found in the walls of the stomach, intestines, blood vessels, and bladder. They continue to work beyond your consciousness.

Cardiac Muscles can be found in the heart. They have the characteristics of skeletal and smooth muscles because they look like straited muscles, but they contact automatically.

Guide Questions 1. What are the three types of muscles? 2. Describe each kind of muscle. 3. Give an example of each kind of muscle. 4. Introduce how to make the muscular system healthy or ways to prevent injuries or damage to the muscles (i.e., sprain, bruises, burns, contusions, etc.)

Our province of Ilocos Sur is rich in land and bodies of water that’s why the primary job of Ilocos Surian is farming and fishing. Who among you is always going to farm, seas, or rivers?

Muscles are like the 'engines' that power us in these tasks. When we plant rice in the fields, our muscles help us dig and carry heavy loads of rice. They also enable us to paddle boats when we go fishing, just like the engine of a boat. What other jobs require our muscles to work?

Muscles give us the proper posture, strength, and flexibility to do these important jobs.  

Activity: “COME BUILD MY BODY” Assemble the puzzles to form a picture of muscular system.

DIGESTIVE SYSTEM Day 3:

Tell something about the picture. What are they doing? Why do we need to eat? How about you? Are you eating your meal also with your family? How do you feel eating together?

Activity Materials: Biscuit and Water I nstruction : 1. You are going to place a biscuit in your mouth. 2. Then chew the biscuit. 3. Then, swallow it. 4. Afterwards, you drink water. 5. Do it carefully so that you will not have an accident while doing your activity. 6. I’m giving you 1 minute to do it.

Digestion is the process by which food is changed into simpler substances that can be used by the body's cells. What system of the body changes the food into substances that can be absorbed by the body cells?

Group Activities Instruction: 1. Perform the activity as a group for five minutes. 2. Answer the guide questions that follow. 3. Write it on the manila paper. 4. The leader will report in front the findings of your exploration.

Group 1: “LABEL UP MY PARTS”   Directions: Label the different parts of the digestive system on the tarpaper. Choose your answer from the pocket chart. Guided Questions: 1. What are the different parts of the digestive system? 2. What is the importance of the digestive system in our body?

Group 2: “ORGANIZE ME” Teacher will give you a graphic organizer with labels for different parts of the digestive system, such as the mouth, esophagus, stomach, small intestines, large intestines, and anus/anal canal) Directions: -Fill in the functions of each part in simple terms. -Present your graphic organizers and explanations to the class. -How does the digestive system work?

Typically, during birthdays, weddings, baptisms, and other events, there are lots of foods prepared on the table.   In getting our food, what must we consider?

Eating is not a contest or a competition. But sometimes, if we are at a party, we eat so fast because we would like to have a second round and that’s not a good practice. These good eating habits are not only done when you are attending parties but also every time you take your meal.

And there are other good eating habits that we should be observed, and these are the following. 1. Never talk about unpleasant experiences while eating. This may cause indigestion. 2. Eat at the right time. Digestive juices are released during the morning, lunch, and dinner time. 3. Eat a balanced diet. Take go, grow, and glow foods at every meal.

4. Lessen your intake of sweets. Chocolates, cakes, and candies may destroy your appetite. 5. Take plenty of juice and water every day. Eat fruits and vegetables. They are rich in fiber which helps in your bowel movement.

COLLABORATIVE ACTIVITY:   Game: “BUILD MY DIGESTIVE” Mechanics: Complete the puzzle on the different parts of the digestive system. Let the learners do the activity for 3 minutes. Post their output in corners. Allow learners/the leader to present their output about the activity done.

RESPIRATORY SYSTEM Day 4:

Activity: Do some deep breathing. Observe and take note of the organs you used in breathing. After doing the activity: 1. How do you feel? 2. What comes in and what comes out of your body?

Remember: Air is one of the basic needs of living things we learned before. Our body takes in oxygen when breathing in/inhale and releases carbon dioxide in breathing out/exhaling.

What are the effects of the housefire? Some people die during housefire not directly because of the burning but due to suffocation. What other situations may happen where the body cannot get the needed oxygen?

Respiration is the process by which organisms exchange gases, especially oxygen and carbon dioxide, with the environment. Understanding respiration and the different parts of the body involved in the process helps us appreciate our respiratory system and improve our health.

Group Activity Instruction: 1. Perform the activity as a group for five minutes. 2. Answer the guide questions that follow. 3. Write it on the manila paper. 4. The leader will report in front the findings of your exploration

Group 1: “ANALYZE ME”   -Present a picture of the respiratory system. -Analyze the picture then answer the questions that follow.

Answer the following questions: 1. Where does air enter the body? 2. Where does the exchange of gases occur? 3. What is respiration? 4. Is breathing important in life? Why? 5. Are the organs of the respiratory system important? Why? 6. What do you call the airways that lead to the lungs?  

Group 2: “I KNOW IT RIGHT”   - Group into four and each group will receive a diagram of the respiratory system. -Label parts you know or can guess using marker and chart papers. T hen answer the question: -How do you take good care of your respiratory system?

What instances in our daily life do we compare our breathing? (blowing a balloon, pumping a swimming pool, etc.)

Lesson Activity Let’s try to identify the parts and functions of the respiratory system.

C IRCULATORY SYSTEM Day 5:

Enrichment Questions: Tell something about the picture. What is the girl doing? What kind of food is the girl eating? Why do we need to eat nutritious food How do nutrients from food reach the different parts of our body?

Enrichment Questions: Tell something about the picture. What kind of transportation is in the picture? What does a delivery truck do?

There are different parts of our body which are responsible for transporting food nutrients to all other parts of our body and gets rid or remove wastes /unwanted substances out from the body. Learning about our circulatory system and how it works helps us to understand the wonder of our body and how to take care of it.

Game: “NAME THAT ORGAN” Flashcards of the different organs in the circulatory system will be shown to you, and you will guess the name of the picture.
