•Thesearethechemicalagentwhichareusedintreatmentoffungal
infectionsareknownasAntifungalagent.
•CLASSIFICATION:-
A) Synthetic compounds:
1)Carboxylic acids and their metallic salts.
e.g. undecylenicacid (undecenoicacid), zinc undecenonate
2)Dyes e.g. gentainviolet (crystal violet), malachite green.
3)Phenolic compounds e.g. salicylic acid
4) Diamidinese.g. stilbamidine.
5)Thiocarbanilicacid derivatives. e.g. tolnaftate
6)Azoles (or imidazoles) e.g. miconazole, clotrimazole

(B) Natural products
Antibiotics:
a) Antibacterial antibiotics e.g. Griseofulvin.
b) Polyene antifungal antibiotics
i) tetraenes e.g. nystatin, amphotericin A.
ii) pentaenes e.g. pentamycin
iii)heptaenes e.g. amphotericin B,hamycin.

•1. UNDECYLENIC ACID OR UNDECENOIC ACID
CH2=CH-(CH2)8-COOH
•PROPERTIES:-
1)It occurs as colourlessor pale brownish clear liquid or white to yellowish white crystalline mass
2)It has characteristic odour
3)it is practically insoluble in water but miscible in alcohol and chloroform.
•STABILITY AND STORAGE :-
It is affected by light and hence it is stored in a tightly-closed , light-resistant container at a temperature between 15°to 18°C.
•USES:-
1)It is used as topical fungicidal.
2) internally, it is used to treat
a) psoriasis
b) Neurodermatitis
•PHARMACEUTICAL FORMULATIONS:-
1)Compound undecylenicacid ointment
2)zinc undecenoatedusting powder.
•BRANDNAMES:-
Mycota, Tineafax, Decylon

2) TOLNAFTATE:-
•Itis an ester of ß-napthol.
PROPERTIES:-
1)It is white or creamy white powder.
2)it is odourless.
3)it is practically insoluble in water.
4)it is very slightly soluble in alcohol but freely soluble in chloroform.
STORAGE:-It is stored in tightly closed container .
USES:-
1)It is used as topical antifungal agents.
2)it is used for prophylaxis and treatment of various forms of ringworms.
3)it is also effective agent in skin infections
4)in combination with griseofulvin, it is used to treat systemic infection.
•PHARMACEUTICALFORMULATION:-
1)Tolnaftatetopical solution
2) Tolnaftatepowder
3) Tolnaftatetopical aerosol.
•BRANDNAME:-
Tanacidal,multiderm, mycil.

3)NYSTATIN
PROPERTIES:-
1)It is yellow to light brown powder having cereal-like odour.
2) it is hygroscopic.
3)it is very slightly soluble in water and alcohol
STABILITYAND STORAGE :-
itis hygroscopic and is affected by room temperature, light and air. Hence, it is stored in tightly-closed, light-
resistant containers at a temperature not exceeding 5°C.
USES:-
1)It is an antifungal and is usedforprophylaxis and treatment of candidiasis of skin and mucous membrane.
2) for treatment of intestinal and oesophagealcandidiasis (in the form of tablets).
3) for candidiasis of mouth (in the form of lozenge).
4) for candidiasis of vagina (in the form of pesseriesor vaginal cream).

•PHARMACEUTICAL FORMULATION :-
1)Nystatin tablets
2) Nystatin oral suspension
3) Nystatin cream
4) Nystatin ointment
5) Nystatin pesseries
6) Nystatin vaginal tablets
7)Nystatin topical powder
8) Nystatin and triamcinolone ointment.

4) AMPHOTERICIN
•PROPERTIES:-
1)It is occurs as yellow to orange powder
2)it is tasteless
3)it is odourless.
4)it is practically insoluble in water and alcohol,
but soluble in dimethyl sulfoxide.and in propylene glycol.
•CHEMICAL PROPERTIES:-
When it is treated with phosphoric acid solution,a deep blue colour is produce.

•STABILITY AND STORAGE:-
•It is affected by light, air and even by room
•Temperature. hence, It is stored in tightly-closed,
•light-resistant container at a temperature of 2°c to 10°c.
•USES:-
•It is used in antifungal agent.
•2) It is used for suppression of oral or
•intestinal candidiasis.
•3)it is used in treatment of cryptococcal meningitis.

•PHARMACEUTICAL FORMULATION:-
1)Amphotericinn cream
2) Amphotericin lotions.
3) Amphotericin ointment
4)Amphotericin injection
5) Amphotericin mixture
6) Amphotericin lozenges.
•BRAND NAME:-
Fungilin
Fungizone

5) HAMYCIN (PRIMAMYCIN)
•PHYSICALPROPERTIES:-
1)It is occurs as yellow amorphous powder.
2)it is amphoteric nature.
3)it is practically insoluble in water and in chloroformbut soluble in
pyridine.
•CHEMICALPROPERTIES:-
when it is treated with conc. sulphuricacid, it givesstable blue colour.

•STORAGE :-
It is affected by light and air and hence it is stored in tightly closed light-
resistant containers.
•USES :-
1)it has antifungal and antitrichomonalactivity.
2) It is used topically and orally in various fungal infection.
•PHARMACEUTICALPREPARATION:-
1)Hamycin ointment
2) Hamycin vaginal tablets
