Application of Electrophoresis

1) DNA Analysis: Leading use of electrophoresis is in the identification and
study of DNA and RNA fragments.
2) Electrophoresis plays an important role in the testing of antibiotics.
3) As with antibiotics, electrophoresis is useful for both the creation and
production of vaccines.
4) To study homogeneity of a macromolecular system.
5) Analysis of complex biological mixtures, medical research, protein research
and purification.
6) Agricultural testing in food laboratory, separation of organic acid, alkaloids,
carbohydrates, amino acids, nucleic acids and insulin.
7) Employed in biochemical and clinical fields i.e. in the study of protein
mixtures such as blood serum, hemoglobin and in the study of antigen and
antibody interaction.
8) Urine analysis and cerebrospinal fluid analysis. It is also used in the
separation of inorganic compounds such as silver and nickel or arsenic,
antimony, tin, silver, mercury, lead and iron.
9) Also in the separation of organic compounds as aliphatic amines, dyes,
hydrolyzed products of nucleic acid, organic acids and amino acids.
10) In serum protein electrophoresis and lipoprotein analysis and
Hemoglobinopathies.
